That's kind of sad, although I don't think that government should be in the business of recognizing marriage at all.
Of course, the easy end-around of this amendment would just be to call state-recognized marriage something else, in which case the definition of marriage would be entirely irrelevant. Not that I'm condoning that, mind you. |
Just to be sure I'm following you correctly... you mean have the word marriage reserved for the religious sacrament and term secular unions something different... civil unions or something of the same ilk? |

| Why not just legally treat marriage like any other contract, with the terms specified by the parties that decide to participate, and then let them tack on to it whatever religious or secular or emotional meaning they please? |

Prop 7 was terrible. Riddled with loopholes and proposed by an independent company from Arizona that had nothing to do with energy whatsoever, and actually did more harm in the long run than good.. I voted against that too.
ps
Obama also opposed Prop 8. |

Having the word "marriage" defined that way makes as much sense as having one water fountain for white people and one water fountain for "colored" people. |

On the news last night they were saying that Obama running for president actually hurt prop 8. More African-Americans in Southern California came to vote and tend to be quite religious/family oriented, and were more likely to vote yes on Prop 8.
I was in Orange County over the weekend for my brother's birthday, Yes on Prop 8 signs EVERYWHERE. Total shock to me, here in LA there were hardly any people that had Yes on 8 signs on their cars/lawns whatever, and when they did they were pretty harshly chastised.

That is EXACTLY what I've been saying :stongue:
The reason gay people say their relationships last longer is because they don't get the opportunity to get married, fed up and eventually divorced. |
