This is being built down in Tribeca and is probably one of the more revolutionary high-rises going up here in the city. I didn't like it at first but it's absolutely incredible how it works as a whole. Herzog & de Meuron have become one of my top 5 favorite architects in my opinion.

Also the Tolo House by my favorite architect, Alvaro Siza...
It's a house on a hill based on the idea of a staircase, from room to room....

I'll be the first to say that Dubai has some unprecedented going on there... However, although the "wow" factor is there, I think it's lacking in what I really love about architecture: thought. Other than the Dubai Opera House and Vertical City, everything else seems like it's being constructed as a spectacle, as an "image", and not an "idea". Many will disagree with me, especially non-architecture people, but this year has really opened my eyes to look at more idea-driven arch. instead of things that just "look cool".
For example, wotyzoid's post is of Tadao Ando, who is so famous for the background meaning and symbolism in his work. My favorite is his monastery, I forgot where it is, but it's incredible. It doesn't revolve 360 degrees or flash lights like a spaceship, but it's something people will see 1000 years from now and look at in appreciation as we look at Roman ruins, etc.
Although I will admit the rotating tower is cutting edge and quite amazing.
