Oasis....where do I begin? quality guys, good music, but more infamous by their public antics and critiques of other bands than actual substance of music. Hell, they cant even beat out Blur for more influential music of a generation, how do you expect to pit them with a band like GnR in the grand scheme of things.

haha... I agree with most of this. I stopped listening to U2 after Jushua Tree. Zepplin has had more influence on more bands in the rock/metal genre than almost any. Yeah they have some stupid and annoying tracks, but who doesn't? They will be timeless along with Pink Floyd and a few others.
Your comment on Blur made me think of how much I like the Gorillaz |

Trent Reznor is a business man first and foremost. The reason Nine Inch Nails became so popular is that he took the sound people like Throbbing Gristle and Skinny Puppy pioneered 10 years earlier and translated it for the MTV-generation with the backing of a multi-million dollar record company.
I'll give him kudos for not being scared to try new and different things, though. |

It's the drugs...sure
But I also believe that more of their awesome power was lost in their hair. A couple examples:
James from Metallica cuts his hair, the band lost strength.
Eddie Vedder cut his hair, the band lost strength.

Axl was just an OCD ****** who couldn't let go.
GNR had some great times, but I wouldn't say they were the greatest. Appetite was a great album though.

Someone should do that to abstract hip hop (the stuff put out by Ninja Tunes). I can't get enough of "The Herbaliser - Failure's No Option", but I don't think anyone stands British rap except for the Brits themselves...
Something like that would make ordinary hip hop a lot more interesting, even though I think souljah boys supersoaking bees is epic and amusing :D |
