Influential to what end? In that they have spawned a whole slew of popular crap that has been produced in the last 10 years? They were the product of their influences to be sure, as all artists are, but popular music these days seems to be only the product of what record companies and profiteers want them to be, so long as it's marketable. That's not music, and it's most certainly not art in the least.

Yeah, I'm really not sure about 60s and 70s Punk... I mean, in the 80s is when it finally made its way to the US after brewing in the UK for so long... but is that just the time period when it finally emerged as an iconic form of "rock" music, to be lumped with all the other commercial crap as just another genre! LOLZ, or was that when it finally stirred something in people?

they're not 20 anymore i mean cmon :p. voices change, attitudes, and direction, it's completely understandable. i think now, they're trying too hard to be what they used to be, but failing at it like every other band from their era getting back into the game

I don't think I've listened to any band more in my lifetime than GN'R. Maybe because they had such an impact on me when I was a kid. I was actually at their concert here in Oslo in 1993 when I was 10 years old. I grew out of them for a long while when Nirvana and stuff like that made GN'R "uncool", and when I started listening to trance etc. There were a few years where I listened to nothing but trance, techno or house. Thankfully I grew out of that stage and started listening to all kinds of music. I rediscovered GN'R again like 5-6 years ago, and still listen to them regularly.
Appetite & the Use Your Illusions are just brilliant. I've heard alot of classic rock, and see how much GN'R were influenced by early Aerosmith for instance. I still don't think anyone's done the hard blues-inspired rock better. You can't deny the greatness of pretty much all of Appetite for destruction, Estranged, Civil war, November rain, and one that doesn't get mentioned often, Locomotive.

Offspring & Green day were around before Nirvana & they were mainly influenced by 70/80's punk, metal & hard rock. Not Nirvana.

Think About You, second track on side 1 of the tape. Now that was a track i over played when i was in middle school.
I remember i went to a local record store & bought GNR's tour shirt with the lady left for dead in the alley half naked. Had to hide it from my mom.
