| I did a 30 day thing. Lots to learn. I went before I ed up. The people I saw already lost houses and family because of addiction. I make better choices now but I still drink/smoke. I actually liked it. |

interesting. i'd like to hear more about this. i'm kind of in the same boat...as i haven't lost anything (other than a little bit of dignity, and a friendship); but i still have my job, life, family.
you said you still smoke/drink...have you at least cut back since going through? or have you found that the more time goes on, you're old habits come back in the same "moderation" as they were? |

Well during the 30 days I couldnt drink. I was randomly tested. I had to go to 3 AA meetings a week, but before the meetings I was in a 3 hour group of other addicts. They were there for all sorts of addictions but it was about a 10 person group so it was easier to be honest.
I did the same as you. Came into work after a night of boozin still drunk. I had to see a shrink to see what treatment was needed. They said I was a binge drinker. I didnt start drinking until 26 so I was heading down a bad path but it was early and I was willing to cooperate. The ones that go there and try to fight the program, miss what help its doing. They open up eventually but make the process tougher.
I didnt have a problem with the rules. I didnt have to drink. (They wont buy that if you say that, even if you dont. If its true, its easy.) There were people that would drink listerine just to get wasted or would be shaking without a drink. I had it easy. It sucked that I couldnt drink with the boys on the weekends but thats where I got in the most trouble. So I didnt go out where it was going to turn into drinking. I cruised through the class but learned a lot from the storys from the others that have hit rock bottom. I felt better. I dont drink like that anymore but if I do its rare, and I have the next day off. Ill have a beer or two ( they dont buy that either BTW) with friends and call it a night before they start ordering shots. Ive dodged a lot of bullets doing this. |

that's a pretty sweet story dude...awesome to hear. i'm definitely looking forward to more of these sessions...i want to learn from other people; and have people learn from my experience too. as far as the alcohol thing goes, i think i'm the worst case in there...but the drug addicts are far beyond anything i've ever experienced. even for just a half-day as the first day, its been interesting. |

| 10 days doesnt seem long enough to really soak it in. I was going to group sessions (5 hours) 4 times a week and AA(2 hours) 3 times a week. For a month. It took two weeks to really see a bit of a change in my daily habits and felt ready to be honest with others. I was way out of my league as far as addicts go. I felt I was in the wrong place but addiction is addiction so a lot of the storys sound similar. It just seems right when you are going to be getting used to the group your going to be done. I wanted to stay longer but couldnt. |

haha... this reminded me of my health class in high school. our teacher told us that if you have more than 3 drinks in any one sitting, then you have a problem with alcohol and are considered an alcoholic. I didn't even get a respectable buzz until I got to the 4th drink! Ahh yes, high school propoganda. |
Girls can also get pregnant after "heavy petting". ;) |

oh, right... I forgot about the stern reminder that there are over 1,000,000 sperm located in the "pre-cum" fluid and you're setting yourself up for pregnancy without even blowing your load. :haha: |
