interesting. i'd like to hear more about this. i'm kind of in the same boat...as i haven't lost anything (other than a little bit of dignity, and a friendship); but i still have my job, life, family.
you said you still smoke/drink...have you at least cut back since going through? or have you found that the more time goes on, you're old habits come back in the same "moderation" as they were? |
Generally, I try to not say anything remotely personal or serious on TA, especially on the COR but...
Moderation is the last fantasy of the desperate alcoholic who wants to keep the dream alive that he can drink like normal people.
Moderation might work for a while, but eventually people go back to drinking hard. And actually moderation is a stupid concept if you think about it. Like yeah, I really want to go out and drink ONE drink, like that would make me happy. Yay, I'm nursing my stoli & cranberry and woo hoo drinking moderately is way cool.
that. I'd rather have 10 drinks or none at all. One or two drinks is torture because the whole night you'll be thinking you want another drink, but you can't because then everybody will know you are an alcoholic. Control is an illusion.
I'd check out AA for people who really understand your issues. It's tough getting sober, but worth it. |

I'm totally addicted to Cinnamon Toasties cereal I got the other day. I love to snack on it. Maybe I need to go to rehab too. :gsmile:
Cinnamon is like crack to me. |

yeah, i can understand what you're talking about. the AF has this thing called "0013" zero dui's , zero alcohol related incidents, 1 drink per hour, 3 drinks per night. sounds rather cheesey, but it's a safe way to go out , still drink, and be OK to drive.
as far as moderation goes, there IS alcohol out there that tastes good. i mean, wine? hello? havinga nice glass of merlot with a steak brings out so much flavor. pinot gregio w/ some cheese and crackers? amazing! Guinness? quite possibly the best beer ever. so i want to get back to drinking for flavor, not drinking to get wasted. i guess there's little difference between the two (from an AA's point of view); but who knows.
i've been sober for 15 days now. the most i've ever gone was 60 days when i gave it up for lent (then another 20 days after that when i had mono and thought i was going to die). after those 60 days, i had one beer and passed out for three hours. combonation of the lingering mono, i'm sure; but also because it wasn't in my system for so long.
right now, i dunno what my ultimate goal is. i guess to never go down this road again. i know what the real solution is: to never drink again. because that's 100% quaruntee that this will never happen again. but at the same time, i feel like it would be OK to have one or two beers w/ the buddies during a football game....or having a glaass of wine w/ dinner. or maybe celebrating something downtown w/ a martini. (just ONE).
meh -- i'm pretty full of various emotions about it. just taking one day at a time, i 'spose |

Now thats an alcoholic way of thinking. Torture because you only had a beer or two after work with dinner? I do it all the time. New years I had 3 12oz beers all day . I didnt want to get drunk. It wasnt torture. Ive never been big on alcohol so moderation or having minimal amounts is easy. I just got nailed after a long night. |

2nd day of "rehab". its not really "rehab" rehab...more like "rehab-lite". but still beneficial. lot of talking; lots of examples; and a little bit of discussion. i tended to stay a little on the quiet side today; but did almost get into an argument with the guy leading it. but i exaplined how i interpretted what he said, and he explained it better, and so things worked out.
he first said that people drink because they have guilt and shame. and i was like....no...i have guilt and shame because of what i did while intoxicated.
i feel pretty positive today. went to the gym as well afterwards. |

LOL. it doesn't help when YOU are the worst case in there. i mean, the drug addicts, they've lost some and all. but as far as alcohol goes, i'm the biggest addict.
its a revolving door, so there's always people coming in and going out....the one dude who was twitching left; but who knows...someone might come in that actually HAS sucked dick for crack.
and when that day comes, c0r, i will share with you all. |
