Nope, just my opinion on this music.

Well the music is what it is, its up to the user to find enjoyment in any piece of music. And in the best case a person has an open mind, without preconceived filters. In life in general people can create their own happiness if they allow themselves to be happy with whatever they are doing or consuming. To me it doesn't matter whether you like or dont like this particular album or this artist's music, but what interests me is the parameters people use towards critiquing an artists work, when deciding whether its of good or bad quality or whether they like or dislike it. So im not really defending Nathan Fake's music here, just that your observation of this music or any music was unrealistic. But you gave a good reply, and obviously you understand the resolution and nuance concept, and know that Nathan Fake's covers a bit more ground than just a BOCesque sound. Which should really make it easier to respect his work because he can cover different styles but can also cover a BOC inspired sound. That said, I would not be surprised if Nathan Fake has produced tracks that has Boards of Canada saying "I wish we would have travelled there." So again, nuance, personal style, and interpretation devides artists with similar sounds, and the student can often surpass the master in some areas.

And how awesome is

A soundtrack to many feelings, places, and thoughts.

After that last line, I think you are a bit of a Nathan Fake nut. ;) But that's fine, we all have our passions. Again, whether my impression was unrealistic or not is immaterial. They were simply my feelings upon initial playback (and I believe one subsequent followup) of Drowning in a Sea of Love, the only downtempo/IDM album he's released, irrespective of his other singles and EPs. It's been a few years now, so it may be time to revisit. I also think that any accomplished artist who feels "penis" envy over another artist's creation is just not as accomplished as they may think. :p

I took it as if you felt you spoke for the whole world.

Yeah, it has gone down hill after Avus' "Furry Hat / Spnkr" release. It seems to me that Border Community has run its course with techno. James Holden has been quiet for a long time, save the average-sounding Radiohead remix. Maybe it is time for James to take a leap to something else, kind of like the leap he took from prog to techno back in 2003. Then, perhaps everyone else on the label will feel inspired to actually start testing new grounds.

So, do you think every post on this message board should begin with the phrase "In my opinion, ..."?

Don't be dense, I just felt it was a bit harsh and I read it in a way that made the poster seem arrogant. Relax, champ.

Well, then your intolerance of arrogance deserves admiration. That sure is one big fish that you are battling.

Now you're taking it too seriously. :) I was just trying to make a fancy statement.

I do enjoy moving, creative, well made music, some of Nathan Fake's music would fall under that. On the contrary, an accomplished artist can freely have "penis envy" as you hyperbolically put it, of another talented artists work, I'd see it as a show of respect more than anything. It doesn't happen more often because there are a lot of people like you and the person that commented earlier, who would call it "penis envy." Otherwise im sure every artist does this internally, unless they have some huge ego. It would simply be selfless acknowledgement of another artists great work.
