ooook, so remind me again why I am wrong for saying that the news analogy is not the same as music pirating?
Writer - paid
Music artist - not paid

Read what I wrote above...
- News industry has had a smilar shift, are adapting.
- Music industry, has had the shift, is not adapting. |

But you're not responding to the crux of the issue - the originator of the work getting or not getting paid! |

Who? The newsman or the musician?
The musician could get paid too if he adopted his business model like the newsman did. |

So who would pay the musician for his/her work, if not the end user? |

Like I've said before here, the end user can buy merch or pay for tickets to see the musician perform live.
What I've been saying all along is people need to develop new business models to open up new methods of payment. |

| There are smart people out there with other angles (e.g. Ritchie Hawtin > Allen & Heath) |

Your new business model involves artists producing work they don't get paid for. Why would they spend time producing if they only get paid for the live appearance? They wouldn't.
The correlation between booking fees and original works produced is not strong enough for the model to work in this industry. |

You're missing the point. They still get paid for their time and effort. You seem to think my business model involves giving away music for free, which it doesn't.
What I am suggesting is that there are other profit centres that will allow you to have a sustainable income which counteracts the eroded profits from units/copies.
People will still buy your music if you're promoting it effectively.
Two hours of performance time will net you a hell of a lot more than two hours of studio time will. Surely you cannot deny that. |

I just fail to see the incentive for people to make music if the war against file sharing is dropped.
Essentially I think your "model" is a fancy way of suggesting artists just roll over and take it, and tell themselves that their big booking fees are really compensation for their production. Isn't that it? There's no change in the model, you're suggesting a simple shift in artists' thinking. |

Use your brain... steve didn't get where he is by selling copies. what a joke. |
You still didn’t answer my question Dave.
If your gonna brag about how much your stuff is getting pirated why aren’t you as busy as Steve?
And thx for checking out my boring tune. It doesn’t compare to the catalog of chart toppers you’ve released but we try. |
