4.5 billions years, isn't that long enough time for life to appear and evolve??
It's quite hard to grasp the concept of a 1000 years, imagine 4 500 000 times that!!! |

I find it hilarious that people who go on about embracing an infinite, omnipotent, omniscient being can't get a grip on billions of years and what can happen in that amount of time. |

As a rule, we're talking about people who think the earth is thousands of years old, not billions, and believe that evolution is actually impossible, not merely improbable.
The difference between willful blindness and actual stupidity is subtle, but important. |

but adam and eve evolved from something! their final "design" if you want to call it that wasn't just created on the spot. |

In your personal opinion, which you've been quite blunt about in the past, everybody should be an atheist. Part of the problem with touting extreme positions is that you don't really have any credibility when it comes to the gray areas.
|
I believe that everybody should be an atheist in the same respect as that everybody should believe in the non-existence of Zeus or Horus or Xenu or the tooth fairy or Santa Claus. I have no more respect for a Christian's beliefs than I do for a scientologist's. I have no more respect for a Christian in public office than I would for a scientologist in public office.

And of course, the most "scientific" position would be agnosticism, since there is clearly insufficient evidence to draw any useful conclusions about the existence of a, err, "higher power". I wouldn't be any more comfortable with a "strong atheist" in such a position than I am with a Christian who's shaky on evolution; both show a disregard for scientific consensus and the scientific method. |
As Dawkins and many others have argued, it is not "scientifically" sound to be agnostic about, say, the presence of a teapot orbiting Jupiter. It is foolish to assume that there is an equal probability of there being a teapot orbiting Jupiter and there not being one.
In exactly the same sense, it is NOT scientifically sound to make political and moral decisions based upon the belief that there is a 50% chance of Zeus, Xenu, Santa Claus, or Yahweh existing. The scientifically sound position is de facto atheism -- making decisions as if the non-existence of supernatural beings were certain. |

Fair enough. Many atheists find the text on signs in front of many churches to be highly offensive, but I feel that they are free to post what they want and that seems fair.
However, I don't believe that anybody's beliefs should be free from scrutiny just because they are "holy".
Scientologists get pissed off if you tell them that their religion is a get-rich scam orchestrated by its founder designed purely to suck the money out of those retarded enough to fall for it. But that won't stop me from saying it.
On the other hand, if a Christian calls me a heathen and tells me that I am going to hell, I won't be offended; I will just think that she is an ignorant, helplessly brainwashed product of 2000 years of lies.
If a person can't handle people telling her that her beliefs are silly, then she ought to think a bit more about her beliefs, or get new ones. |

You've once again proven that you have no clue what normal Christians actually believe, and you base your entire argument on your jaded straw-man view.
Some Christians may have silly beliefs about the origins of man and the universe - as we've seen demonstrated in this very thread - but you certainly have very silly beliefs about Christians and other theists. |
