Some Christians may have silly beliefs about the origins of man and the universe - as we've seen demonstrated in this very thread - but you certainly have very silly beliefs about Christians and other theists.

maybe he's just fed up of listening to so called "normal" Christians (seriously man, that's a good one, keep them coming!) preaching their obtuse crap too often. I certainly am.

so when was the last time (and how often) do you, personally, get preached to about your sinful behaviour?

Funny that I have never experienced this. I read about them in the papers and stuff, but I cannot honestly remember ever having been called a "heathen" or been otherwise preached to. Maybe they're all just afraid of me. Or maybe, like so many other demons, they only exist in the fringe and in the mass media?

I'm genuinely baffled at what kinds of people you must be hanging out with in order to be "fed up" with them and hate them so much.

"normal" Christians? :stongue: :stongue:

What do you think of "normal" scientologists?

You just don't get it. I'm not just condemning the crazy young-Earth-creationists and bible thumpers. I'm condemning the moderate Christians and casual church-goers as well. I'm condemning anyone who makes a single moral decision based on a supernatural belief, be it the cultish fantasy of some guy down the street or a 2000-year-old myth that is believed by a billion people.

Much of my hatred is aimed at evangelical organizations like the Campus Crusade for Christ, who regularly set up booths on the third floor of the Waterloo math building (near the Computer Science Club and Pure Math Club offices), offering free food, drinks, and bibles to passers-by while infecting those around them with their lies. They prey on innocent first-years and foreign students who have few friends, and put great emphasis on trying to suck as many of them into Christianity as possible.

Sure, they may be nice people, but the doctrine they spread is one that I feel is profoundly damaging.

I'm going to put an end to this crap once and for all.

Consider the following:

Did Megan Fox evolve from a monkey?

As you can plainly see it is clear that we have been blessed by God--she is no monkey friends.

Amen

What we consider morally right and wrong comes from religion...heck, even many laws are based on those moral decision that were based on a supernatural belief....whether you believe in a supernatural being or not....you were taught right from wrong because someone did believe.

I don't have the time or the skill, but you know that's just begging for a photochop.

What you write here is correct in a twisted sense, but what am I to conclude from this? I fail to see how this is an argument in favour of religion.

Past human cultures have had various belief systems, some of which were beneficial and others not. If you take two primitive tribes, one believing in cannibalism and human sacrifices, and the other believing in respecting human life and feeding one's neighbour and so on, which tribe will have the most offspring in 10 generations? Which will end up populating the planet and spreading its ideas to others?

Naturally, it follows that if a good moral system is intertwined with a powerful religion, then a god-fearing population will be more likely to obey the rules and behave in a globally optimal manner.

Whether by accident or by our own ability to reason out the most globally optimal and fair set of laws, we have EVOLVED (in the anthropological sense of SOCIOCULTURAL evolution) the ability to distinguish right from wrong. The fact that this is tied to a 2000-year-old myth for 1/6th of the Earth's population should be nothing surprising.

The problem with accepting religious ideals as a gold standard for our morals is that the cultures that have been the most FIT (in the "survival-of-the-fittest" sense) are precisely, by the above argument, the ones that are the most viral in their ideologies and cause the largest population explosions.

Would a religion be successful if it told people to only have one child? NO.

Would a religion be successful if it forbid teaching it to children? NO.

Would a religion be successful if it forbid evangelism? NO.

What humanity needs most right now is to RID ITSELF of sociocultural traits that encourage a growth in human population. We need to put an end to the philosophy of "go forth and multiply".

And christianity is HARDLY a basis of good morals for a society. The bible (yes, even the new testament) condones all sorts of things that you and I would be appalled at.

- Slavery (Luke 7:2, Colossians 3:22, Titus 2:9, etc)

- "Let a woman learn in silence with full submission. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she is to keep silent." (Timothy 1:2)

- ...

The sooner we dump Christian-influenced morals and adopt true logic-based rational moral philosophy, the better. We could be doing far better things with our children than sending them to Sunday school.
