After watching some arab-speaking panel discussions, I am now leaning more towards Hitchens' take on this with regards to what America should do. Even some of the more moderate arabs wholeheartedly beleive that this viral spread of revolutionary sentiment was a result of a system of nodes in the communications technologies sold to the Iranians that were systematically designed to go off and bypass government filters when the right time came around.
Ahmadinejad, Khamenei & CO. are so out of touch that they dont want to admit they were outsmarted by university students using a tacky website. Intervention versus no intervention by the west will be irrelevent to people who have already made up their minds that there has been a highly clandestine electronic conspiracy set in place to bring down the regime. However, meddling too much could lead to disaster in the long run, you wouldn't want the many millions of Iranians that are currently sitting on the fence to revert back to their comfort zone of wholeheartedly supporting the regime.
Has any one given thought about factions of the paramilitary eventually switching sides if things get too out of hand? Lets say things really become chaotic, would there be a possibility ethnic minorities to capitalize and try to attain some sort of autonomy?

Basically you have:
Chine, russia behind Ahmadinejad and then you have U.S and Europe behind Rafsanjani and Mousavi. All those riot police on the streets of Tehran were apparently trained by the Russians and they have been preparing for this scenario for a long time.
Also from the reports that I have heard khamenei and Ahmadinejad are planning to go to the court and accuse Mousavi for the destruction he has caused in Tehran and charge him criminally and most likely he will be either shot infront of the crowd and hanged.

I actually I was reading in some other forums that the DDOS attacks are not a good idea at the moment; Iranians are having enough problems with getting information out of their own country without having to fight for bandwidth from DDOS attacks from the outside.
In short; don't do it please!!

So if I'm understanding the sparse news reports last day or two, the riots have pretty much dissipated. Aside from shouting of roof tops at night, this is over. Unless the public demonstrations continue, the government has won.
Unfortunate, call me a cynic, but doesn't look like there will be any real reform there.
