Change is in the wind for Cherry Beach Sundays

So I'm assuming many of yall got this message too from David at Promise.

Hi, David and Irving here and here’s a key notice about Promise Cherry Beach.
Starting this weekend: The Big Shift
1) We’re moving location.
2) Alcohol is strictly prohibited and will be confiscated.
With the popularity of the Cherry Beach Sundays, sometimes the event changes from a moderate sized afternoon chillout to something more unmanageable and scattered. Right now it’s no longer the relaxation after the weekend of partying, or the alternative to a weekend of partying, it has become, in some people's eyes, the actual party of the weekend.
We all had a battle 3 years ago with permit officers and then gained our right to have a relaxed music afternoon with the support of Councillor Fletcher and City Hall. Our permit allows us the very rare permission for amplified music, and also the normal responsibility of preventing public alcohol consumption and ensuring good conduct. There are certain sizes of events which are easily controlled and some which aren't. The police pointed out last weekend that things were too close to the latter for us. So we need to be proactive and make some changes.
So we take action with The Big Shift.
We shift in two ways. First, we change location. The spot we've been using can't accommodate the numbers we've been seeing and it's too convenient and prone drawing people from the parking lot. We've found a lovely spot that gets us back to our principles of being hidden, underused, off the beaten track and amongst naturally beautiful. It's still roughly in the Cherry Beach area, it's just much further east, halfway to the Leslie Spit, right in front of the huge old Hydro Plant smokestack which you can see from literally miles around. The nearest washrooms and parking is about half a km away (at the beach lot or beside the soccer fields), so you need to consider it like camping, only you're beside the bike path and the water. Tip: RIDE YOUR BIKE.
Second, we cannot allow alcohol. This should be obvious, but over time we all get lax. As police make random visits, they must not see any alcohol. Some have felt that simply putting beer into a cup is a disappearing act. If you were a cop, you’d not be fooled.
We also need to take the step, similar to all other public events, of hiring uniformed security. Don’t be alarmed - they’re friends and here to help with The Big Shift. They’ll be around to seize alcohol or turn people away who bring it. If you bring a bottle of water or a jug of juice, then fine. If you bring a bottle of rum or a 6 pack, then it’s taken away.
So these are the changes that we’re making to the Sunday afternoons. We suppose that some of our newer guests, who may take things for granted, will feel inconvenienced. But those who have been enjoying nice music with us securely outdoors for going on 8 years will be happy with this shift.
So, as with any weekend, remember to bring a kite, bring a frisbee, bring a hammock and your lover, bring a dog (only nice dogs!) and enjoy a lovely sunny day with us listening to all our dj friends on a sweet soundsystem.

Huh, sounds like circumstances are necessitating a change in the ways of Cherry Beach Sundays again...
Personally, I'm very sad to see it leave the beach (I've never liked it more than where it is current RIGHT ON the actual beach in the sand!) and the coming strict enforcement of a NO-alcohol (PERIOD!) policy... though I can understand and see why these changes must happen if we want to preserve and continue to enjoy what we've had at Cherry Beach on Sundays all these years... |

No, and it's a pretty long walk. That's why they say ride your bike. If I'm understanding correctly where they're located, it's at least a 20 minute bike ride from Cherry Beach. |

Yes it takes affect tomorrow, but no it doesn't mean Gregor won't be there. It says in the post special international guest.
I hate to say it though it was the special guests that opened up this event to so many people that it was getting out of hand at times. |
