You said it will change the way "movies" are made. Movies have been made this way for a while. Moon is another fantastic example, I totally forgot to mention that. I think it cost about 8 mil to make and raked in a whole lot more.
The movie is based on Neil's short movie Alive In Joburg.
What makes you so sure they won't sell the rights to a sequel, that will inevitably suck, to make a disgusting amount of money on people like you? |
Yeah ive seen alive in joburg :)
This movie was made out of goodwill - it was made because the halo project fell in a heap and Peter Jackson felt for Neill Blomkampf - not getting the chance to make his first full length feature.
This movie is not a big studio movie - but it is making big studio bucks for them - but along with that they have creative control and have made something special.
There is really nothing stopping them selling it off - i can probably see big studio backing happening for a sequel - but they would be retarded to sell it all off as they have created for themselves something that just about anyone who makes fictional/popcorn movies dreams of...sif sell it. |

| Saw it today. I liked the subject material but didn't care for the actual movie. |

Finally saw the movie last night. good movie. i say this movie lived up to it's hype. i liked the content and flow throughout the movie. i actually found the beginning to be interesting, because it really gave a good background description of what was going on in johannsburg, and the district 9 area.
as for a sequel, i wouldn't oppose to it, but i am also content with the movie ending the way it is. the sequel can be surrounded around the revenge factor, and saving everyone. just as long as they use the same production crew, i will be happy with a part 2. |

Massive +1
I love it when this happens and I hope they never make a sequel.
I actually think it ends well and they can happily leave it there.
I just got back from seeing it and would recommend people go see it.
Rreally pleased with the movie. It's great to go watch something that's different to all the usual Hollywood garbage and the little undertones in the movie are great. Aliens in slums with black people being racist towards them.
Really good actors too, especially the lead. I love seeing movies where I've never seen any of the actors.
I didn't think the camera was too shaky at all btw.

Awesome. So true and a major reason why Transformers 2 should never have been made. |

1. The alien Mech can be only controlled by one alien hand, miraculously the hand that MacNamara has mutated.
2. The alien ship can be controlled by NO hands, by example when MacNamara takes his hand off the controls to tussle with his alien cousin.
| You weren't paying attention were you? It doesn't matter which hand he uses as his DNA is intertwined with the alien DNA so he controls the alien devices with any part of his body. What did you sleep through the weapons testing part where it showed that?
Oh and lol at the Nigerians. Classic :stongue: |

| I thought they did tests with both his hands. They used his human hand and the gun didn't pop. |

| Na his hand worked fine. It's the one where he shoots the alien. |

I'm pretty sure that they tested the alien hand first, and then used his human arm on the alien-killing fire. |

It was entertaining.
Although they kind of stole my idea. I am writing a movie about aliens that come to earth with technology that is weaker than ours.
basterds! |
