Bad commentary on poverty, followed by an hour of nothing really happening, and then robots. Roll credits. |
You probably went to see the wrong movie, you should have went on Disney's Barbie Horse Ranch Adventure. |

Those of you who have seen it may feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like just another action-heavy CGI movie with no true substance to it. That, along with this...

* This was Blomkamps first directing piece, and he used the 'shaky camera' technique WAY too much. |
... completely turn me off from wanting see it. |

It's shot kind of like a journalistic documentary at times, but the shaky cam was a bit unnerving. Overall I loved it - definitely surpassed expectations, despite a few inconsistencies in the storyline. The idea was pretty creative actually, and offered an interesting twist on a familiar Hollywood story.
Definitely not an action movie, although those scenes were pretty cool. Trailer was a bit misleading in that respect. |

Great movie. It's not a commentary on poverty though, not by a long shot. |
Yeah for sure, it was more like a V for Vendetta government corruption in collusion with mega corporations commentary. |

I enjoyed cloverfield as a sort of roller-coaster like experience, but D-9 has far greater lasting value in both artistic and substance forms, and will surely impact the genre. |

That might be a legitimate criticism if you hadn't followed world history in the last couple of decades or so.
There's a reason it is set in South Africa of all places and it's not poverty. Poverty is a by-product though. |
