it wasn't bad, the documentary style got old after awhile and the end was stupid.

Your post is endearing, but very naive.

- Plenty of movies are made for less than the Hollywood "standard" and more than make up for it in the box office. The Hangover is the most recent one I can think of.

- Again, break out stars are born all the time. I seriously doubt you're going to see this guy in many starring roles.

- District 9 IS based on another story :p

I don't even know how to respond to the last two, I certainly hope they don't ever make a sequel. I wouldn't mind seeing something based in the same universe, but if a District 10 comes out in 2012 it's going to be terrible. And directed by Micheal Bay.

How can you compare 'The Hangover' a basic comedy (yes its funny lol) - to something like this? - All they did to cut costs on that was cut out a few scenes...for district 9 it was soo much more about innovation and discovery and just about doing the best with what you have got...

I know we will proberbly never hear of they guy that Plays Wyckers again (except for district movies) - that does not bother me (just like Mark Hamill)...i do not expect him to become a star - what i am saying tho is that this movie may make Hollywood realise that superstar power may not be the be all and end all.....story/word of mouth matters..

What story is it based on? and if you say that ty alien nation ill vomit....

and no michael bay would not direct it (and insert usa cliches wherever he could)...it would be Neill Blomkampf - the creator and writer....he would not let this go...it would just be too stupid to.

I thought Mark Hamill's career was cut short by getting in a bad car wreck...

yeah thats why they added the bigfoot scene at the start of empire strikes back.....

but no - he was just a pretty actor tbh.

There are a number of things to note:
1. The alien Mech can be only controlled by one alien hand, miraculously the hand that MacNamara has mutated.
2. The alien ship can be controlled by NO hands, by example when MacNamara takes his hand off the controls to tussle with his alien cousin.
3. During the siege on MNU, the MNU soldiers have a clear shot at Christopher who is gazing over his fallen friend, yet the Spec Ops show no skill at boom headshot.
4. The documentary method is flawed. At time, the insignias which signify a "documentary POV" (such as a news agency or the clock when MacNamara is about to be guinea pigged) are in positions which are unbelievable. Yes, a security camera, a news helicopter. No, not up an alien's butt.

No need for a sequel. I thought it ended just fine.
Also, I think in the years to come, regardless of how it is viewed critically, it will be used as a significant work for in Uncanny Valley theory. The aliens are incredibly repulsive to look at, yet as the film goes on, the audience begins to feel emotional distress toward their well being. bla bla bla bla bla.

Next up, John Cameron's Avatar. It sucks.

Really? I spose i wouldnt expect any less...but does it really?

Anyone seen 'Moon'?

Oh yeah - D-9 needs about 6 sequels...6 sequels that Neill Blomkampf makes intermiterdley through his 20 year career...would be sick.
SuspicionVandit
yeah it sucks.

And Moon is better than good, worse than great. But I wasn't really paying attention while watching it. so yeah.

You said it will change the way "movies" are made. Movies have been made this way for a while. Moon is another fantastic example, I totally forgot to mention that. I think it cost about 8 mil to make and raked in a whole lot more.

The movie is based on Neil's short movie Alive In Joburg.

What makes you so sure they won't sell the rights to a sequel, that will inevitably suck, to make a disgusting amount of money on people like you?

i swear one of these days i am going to watch Moon. i heard it is a very good movie. it's showing at the theater near my place, and i have been lazy to drive there and watch it. yet, i wasn't lazy to watch The Orphan. fail on me. :(

...... and still haven't watched Districk 9 yet. maybe this weekend.
