i think its fair to say that people that make movies do not agree with the17sss politically, so any time he tells us what a film is about, chances are he's VERY wrong (as he was here).

lol... so now you know the political beliefs of every person who makes a film? I wasn't even saying the film was a political film anyway. Re-read what I wrote and tell me how this is so far off base that I may as well be talking about a different movie:
quote:
I didn't think too much of this movie being about any social or cultural message, other than highlighting what we already know: refugee camps breed poverty, dispair and crime. All different colors and types of people showed varying degrees of prejudice towards them (the prawns) and the movie does a good job I think showing that empathy and concern are not easy to achieve... for me a pretty big WTF moment (other than the alien wearing the pink bra) was how easily they pulled the plug on developing eggs and the guy said laughing, "Here keep this as a souvenir from giving your first abortion."
IMO the prawns were an illustration of how motivation and/or individual potential is wasted by living a managed life... the UN-like body that regulated them turned them into nothing more than depressing scavengers over the course of 20 years despite their strength, intelligence, and technology.
What's the problem with that? I was only analyzing a piece of the film anyway.

Ive already commented on what we all found completely ridiculous about your understanding of the movie.

Lols. what’s unbelievable is you can take a movie that lambasts corporatism and allegories immigration detention & racism and turn it into a film about how government is bad and “planning” is evil.

Again, I was commenting specifically on the plight of the prawns... that wasn't a critique of the entire movie. Believe me, I didn't miss the scene where they were greedily rubbing their hands together at the thought of harvesting the guy's entire body in pieces to fulfill billions of dollars worth of technology and ultimately power.
Edit: Planning is evil? lol... I said lives lived under a managed existance promote dispair.

But you completely missed the point (as bas alluded to earlier) that these were worker bees; this is where their “plight” stemmed from. It had nothing at all to do with having a “managed” or “planned” life which you seemed to have pulled out of your ass.
At least I now know we’re you’re coming from politically. If you can see such messages in a film that had nothing to do with such messages I guess you can see them anywhere :p
Indeed, the irony is that these workers were “despairing” because they lacked the effective management and planning that their queen would normally do for them.
