Trance in name is.
A lot of would have been considered 'Real' (and damn good) trance in the 90's is now called techno or or psy or progressive or even tech house for gods sake.
The style of 'Trance' that the big guys (and little guys sucking the big guys dicks) seem to push now isnt really trance at all - more a form of soft NRG imo.
Surely OP you can hear the difference in emotional depth between the old classics and the new garbage? - the emotional depth has been replaced with a crispy thin plastic venier |
+1... especially on the "what we used to call trance is now..." pitch. It doesnt take long on digital download sites to find some real corkers that are hypnotic, simple and melodic in the old style, but, they are NOT in the trance sections. |

I hate all that daniel kandi and anjuna bull with a passion, and don't get me wrong, I hate the "big" DJs as much as the next guy, but Trance didn't die in the beggining of 2000's. I feel like within 2003-2008, a lot of great songs were still made. The sound has evolved from the original trance sound, but the melody aspect is still there, and its still pretty damn emotional (at least to me).
To give you a little idea of waht I'm talkin about:
Ralph Fritsch - Phoenix
Sunlounger - Crawling (Original, not the remake)
Marcus Schossow - The Last Pluck (Orjan Nilsen Remix)
Late Night Alumni - Empty Streets (Paul Emmanuel and Seamus Haji Remix)
Headstrong - The Truth (David West Progressive Mix)
Mike Foyle - Firefly |

To say today's trance is trance is like saying a hippo is a cow, since the new trance lacks all of the elements that the word "trance" were intended to fulfill. Hypnotic, dark, fast, well-produced, well balanced music. |

I am not so good with expresing myself verbally, I'm rather better in conveying messages via pictorial/tangible examples. So...here we compare:

Have you heard White Sand? It's a ing amazing song. Same for Who Will Find Me even though it is another one of those songs with the really breathy vocals. |

| Music is a business. F*ck the fact that trance has become more commercial (aka vocals and less originality), the problem is that labels are signing too many mediocre artists. There are TOO MANY artists that have one release. The problem is not that the business is commercializing itself (that is inevitable, its marketablity), it is that its expanding itself through mediocracy - accepting anything thats being sent. This destroys image, destroys originality, and destroys depth. |

Also nice, i do like it, but again it's so forgettably similar to other fluff stuff.

Meh, nice for in a mix, but on itself quite stale and forgettable.
I agree with others here that most trance is just rehashed, even most of the tracks i like.
Next to no innovation and in fact most trance has become as dull and uninspiring as pop, rock and hip hop and other top 40 .
It's nearly all glitz and glamor, next to no real content.
Still i like me the tracks that i do like. |
