First of all, where did the assumption that I'm new to the scene come up? I was introduced to EDM through local clubs, certainly not "underground" but I understand the importance of percussion and energy in a dance track. Stop assuming I don't just because I think that, off the club, there's a variety of trance out there not meant to be played in venues like those.

You guys are always the first ones to argue that the genre's changed, that things are completely different than the scene was in the 90's, and yet when I bring up a point that most modern trance has shifted its focus from raw energy, driving percussion, catchy hooks and pounding basslines and towards emphasis on the progression and sweeping melodies, you all jump on me for it.

I never once said "percussion isn't important" as a universal idea, I was simply explaining that the lack of varied percussion, which was the first point brought up, is due to that shift in focus by a good number of producers today. I also said it's up to personal opinion whether or not you see trance as a purely danceable style of music which should emphasize the bassline and percussion, or if you see it as a relatively unexplored song form with potential for new musical expression and ideas through the melodies and harmonies.

The only difference between you guys and me is that I'm willing to acknowledge both sides exist, because they clearly do, but you're all insisting that everyone should listen to trance for the same reason and for the same things and anyone who does otherwise is somehow listening to trance incorrectly. Which, as someone said before, boggles my ing mind. Trance isn't the only genre of music I listen to, but when I listen to it, I want to listen to it for the melodic passages, not because the percussion would potentially be danceable if it were played in a setting other than the one I typically listen to trance in. If you enjoy trance because of the percussion lines, fine, go ahead, it's dance music and I understand that, but don't jump on me and say I'm somehow listening to trance incorrectly if I disagree with you.

ing amazing, my God.

Bottom line is there is a time and place for everything and most dj's/producers get those mixed up all the time.

Jazz and all that is so utterly boring and so simple - a jazz musician just needs to know one instrument inside out - how simple really being able to dedicate your life to knowing just one instrument - all you neeed to do is keep practicing with that one thing, wow, not.

You are stuck in a trance world and you don't seem to realize it.

If this is an evolutionary imperative, then my programming is clearly buggy. I despise repetition, comfort zones, "stability" and all that crap. It's probably the main reason why I've never gotten addicted to any one thing, because I get bored of everything within fairly short order.

That's really the main problem I have with trance, aside from it not being dance music; producers today have never deviated from the formula that was popularized in 2001 (arguably 1998-1999). It's just the same beats, same orchestration, same melodies over and over again, track after track, album after album, set after set, party after party, year after year. I may find electro-house and minimal techno about as exciting as watching paint dry, but at least these genres are constantly on the edge and trying new things. The faddishness annoys me, but not nearly so much as total stagnation.

This is exactly what Eric J and myself and the rest of the gang were talking about in the first place. The rave scene - or just the electronic music scene - has always been about pushing the envelope, about making "music" that sounds weird and different and totally kicks ass after you've ingested several different controlled substances. You can't possibly claim that people who dislike the present-day formulaic epic trance genre are living in the past when trance was a different beast; these people are the antithesis of the old fogies frozen in time, they're the ones who don't want their beats to sound like everything else they've ever heard.

If anything, it's the post-1999 trance cracker crowd that's stuck in a time warp. One fad, one moment in time, its subjects stuck in an ecstasy-induced freeze-frame of nostalgic bliss. Epic trance was dead not more than a few years after it was born; ASOT and the like just capitalized on the restless zombies.

Is it really that difficult? If you dont like Trance or whats goin on in Trance music, simple solution is stop listening to it and find music that fits your tastes. There is plenty of music out there to enjoy isnt there? Stop complaining about music like scandelous women that gossip all day, it is rather pathetic. Do something productive, make your own trance or something, if you dont like trance...instead of showering this forum with useless and worthless ranting, go make some of your own innovative trance, or would that actually require a skill and craft that is far advanced than ranting requires on a forum about music. When you got nothing better to do with your life, rant on a forum about music.

Since this is a Producer forum, those complaining about Trance, can we hear your Trance? Set some examples for the Trance scene to follow...or off with your useless and out of touch with reality complaints.

And , what sort of music appreciation culture do you complainers follow? There is more wrong with the culture you follow and try to impose throughout TA, not just here, than Trance music. Constant complaining about music? Really? I mean I can sit here and point out problems in the way some of you view music, would you do anything to change? And you act like music owes you something. Music does'nt owe you , be lucky that you can hear and have the opportunity to listen to what you want. I was a big hip hop fan growing up, from 87-2000, it went to in 2000, you wont find me on a hip hop forum complaining my life away because hip hop is now . I just kept finding new music instead. The music culture that about 20-30 toxic people on TA follow is rather pointless, and toxic to the rest of us who still enjoy music. So dont bother saving the Trance genre, it really does not need your help, save us from the pointless toxic culture you follow and impose throughout TA.

I agree with Kismet, why do u guys that complain, even come to this forum? Its TRANCEADDICT.com, not TRANCEBASHER.com, it really bothers me, cause u know, I love this forum, and I come here alot to try and get inspiration and idea's to wanna get in the studio and make something, then I gotta come and read all the basher's of trance and it has been disgusting me lately. Why can't anyone talk about the positives or if u don't see any positive's, start making some and share with us. Start a new form of trance, why not come together and come up with new idea's if you don't like the same old idea's. And ps- trance is far from dead, its not all great, but, most shows I listen to still put me in a trance, which is of course the reason why I LOVE TRANCE. Loved it for 10+ years and never stopped. If u think it is dead and u wanna complain on this forum, then show what u are doing to change it:whip:

ing exactly. This is why I love the people like Rafael Frost who do extremely experimental type stuff. It gives you that feeling of not having a ing clue what is coming next. Trance is formulaic in general but todays generation of producers make it even worse. I just wish people would take more time on their projects. I have listened to all of my tracks thousands of times and they still move me. I think if most of the producers pushing junk out held onto their work longer they'd realize it won't continue to move them.

TBH you're doing the same thing. You're talking the talk but have no evidence to back up walking the plank so to speak.
