Ok, thats an interesting question for me. This kinda rolled out in another topic, so I thought it might be a good lesson for me.
I like some of his stuff. The mixes are tight, tracks are well written and stuff like Wall Of Sound is amongst my all time favs.
I heard an opinion that his taste and works are ty and that most people on this forum hate him ... because of something ... ?
Please explain this to me ? Is it the whole Armada that there is smth wrong with ? I also like Markus Schulz, is that equally ty ?
Just wondering ;) |

| How long have you been listening to trance for? |

| Many of us have moved on from the "childish pop trance" that he plays nowadays. No matter how tight his mixing is, he plays horrible music. |

I guess since I was around 10 ... that gives 14 years, so from around '96. Why ?
I also like stuff like Audiomatic, got few of his albums. Really like to mix this stuff. So what is more mature than Armada then ? |

| Because before 2004 he was awesome! :) |

Because generally, these kind of topics/questions are posted by people who are comparatively new to the 'trance scene'. |

| The reason given is that he now plays music that is not up to the quality he was once known for. His sets are now essentially the easily digestible pop of the EDM world, which is why any mention of Mr. Van Buuren is usually met with a myriad of cynical posts about unicorns, lasers, and children's music. As to why this particular forum chooses to focus more on bashing the music they hate than discussing and sharing the music they like, you got me. It's not my thing, so I don't listen to it. |

Are you sure about that?
It's an impression you get when reading over here, but actually that doesn't mean most hate him over here. The DJ poll doesn't confirm that either.
IMO people nowadays are too much DJ focussed in general. |

Most of his stuff is generic. While I do still love trance I like music that is more complex and has substance.
His mixing is fine but his track selections are lacking and mostly cater to the artists on his label.
I don't hate the guy but there are many other much more creative producers/DJ's that I appreciate more.
If he makes a good track I wouldn't deny it, if its good...it's good no matter who the artist is. Most of the tracks that I like from him are extremely old and may be not so great but they do hold a certain degree of nostalgia for me, and were good for their time.
Armin van Buuren Presents Rising Star - Clear Blue Moon (2002)
Perpetuous Dreamer - Future Fun Land (Original 1999/Re-released 2004)
Armin van Buuren & DJ Tiësto Present Alibi - Eternity (2000)
*Listen to these, while the sound might be dated they still exude a certain level of effort and quality.
The last time I remember Armin putting on a outstanding performance DJ wise was at the Tobacco Warehouse, Brooklyn - 2006 |
