It's ok, you've already proven that you're full of and don't know what you're talking about. No sense embarrassing yourself any further.

how many people live in london? so 7k divded by that? really isn't a lot per person. it's just like any other normal amount that goes towards welfare and stuff. i'm not saying that it's OK; i'm just saying, it's not like each person is forking over half their paycheck to pay for this chick's lifestyle.

The problem is that she's not the only person cheating the system; there are thousands of them.

While sticking my neck out to save karims ass usually results in me regretting it, i will have to take some time to back a brother up with some real world facts.

Im an engineer not an economist..... lets just put that point out there.... and PKC if you pounce on me for this one i will never help you out in the PDD again....

first onto jenny's point of people living beyond their means being the young middle class..... first mistake of most young peoples lives is going to school for a degree in undeclared arts, humanities or other useless crap..... while some people will take these useless degrees and get a good career (albeit not at all related to their field), most end up racking up 60 grand in student debt only to realize that with their fancy humanities degree they can only get a job making 25k a year as an admin assistant. most of you will probably dismiss this as typical engineer hating on the arts majors (which is somewhat true) but my point still stands.....

now on to the welfare abusers. From my experience, alot of welfare abusers are people who actually have jobs. i catagorize these people into two groups..... CAW members and construction workers. The automotive industry rapes the welfare program every year during planned shutdowns at assembly plants. the plants go down usually for a couple weeks each summer in order to do repairs, re-tool lines etc in preparation for a new model of car. during this two or three week period, the plant lays off the workers so they dont have to pay them and the workers then collect EI for 2 to three weeks. I spent 5 years working for a undisclosed auto manufacturer in SW ontario when i was in Uni and i saw it happen first hand every year. it may not seem like much but considering the average assembly plant employs around 2500 workers..... 2500 x 2 weeks x EI payout per week..... it adds up fast

Its relatively well know that construction workers (seasonal) go on the pogue every winter when the jobsites shut down for the season. during this time a lot, if not most, of them will collect EI for 6 months while working for the company that laid them off on a cash in hand basis to do snow removal work during the winter. essentially they are double dipping. its common practice across the board and it has been going on for years. In this case its even worse since they are almost making a full salary on the side but not paying any taxes on it at all. so they are draining the funds and not putting anything back into them. This has become somewhat a culture of entitlement in the construction industry.

The last one that really pisses me off is the people who are on welfare because they got laid off from their job but will not take any job because they feel it is below them. Im sorry but if i ever got laid off (which will never happen) i would rather flip burgers for 6 months while trying to find a new job in my field than ride the pogue while sitting on my couch and pretending to job junt for 47 weeks..... I know a bunch of former nortel employees who are doing just that...

New checks and balances need to be imposed in the welfare process to eliminate what has become institutionalized and rampant abuse by many people just because they can get away with it. same can be said for people who are on disability for back injurys that can still find the strength to play 9 holes of golf a day......

Im all for having a welfare system in place to help people when they need it but i want a system that will also eliminate the dog ******s.
