depending on the quality of your news sources, you could argue that message is just as cliche. it's nothing new that combat veterans have a hard time adjusting to life back at home, that many of them come back detached from society and distant from their own families, that some even yearn to return to active duty so they can be around those who understand their struggle. i swear i've read and heard that story a million times already. it's even in a book called "they fought for each other". great book btw. in the end that's the only redeeming quality of that movie, but it didn't affect me like it did you because i was all too familiar with the story as it exists in the real world. hurt locker in my view was incredibly lacking in execution just to deliver that "back at home" scene. any film that tries to portray reality, but falls on its face in the opening scene doesn't deserve best picture.

Yes but the majority of advocates for the movie and environmentalism have this wonderful irony where they ignore the comparative opulence of their lives and the right to disagree with the way the world turns.
The double irony is that if you asked the majority of them if they would take a 50% reduction to the income and lifestyle to maintain a sustainable environmental solution, they would say no... things like going to see a James Cameron mega-film would be more an unheard of luxury.

But hey, what do I know, I'm just a bourgeoisie little bitch. ;)

You'd be no fun if you weren't a 'bourgeoisie little bitch' :p

I understand the irony. And with what you've said, I'd be a little taken aback by a 50% pay cut too.

I do, however, contribute to organisations that cater to the protection of species, and protection of native habitats.

It's obviously not 50% of my income, but it's there. I can't help but think how much good could be done with 5c per week from every working person, just for environmental stuff. That's socialism though. Quite evil.

I wasn't making any remarks to anyone in this thread but I know quite a handful of people personally who all think Avatar is the greatest film thats graced the screen in forever. It's quite annoying.

If the film had no 3D aspect to it it loses a huge amount of its appeal. Their wasn't that many bad films last year to be honest. If Avatar was considered one of the best movies this year by anyone I would kindly tell them to watch more movies.

I agree with Bas also that the soundtrack by Horner was absolutely dreadful.

It's not an awful movie but again I've found this story better told by previous filmmakers like Zwick for example but at least he got Zimmer to do an incredible score for him.
