Oh. Ok, I have a ps3 slim, or whatever it's called. The new one, that doesn't look like the old one.
I think it's not backwards compatible though? Or if I DL the (ps1) games they'll work? There are a few that I want, but haven't bought second hand, because I thought there was no backwards goodness? :conf:
Someone fill me in, plz? |
I'm pretty sure PS1 games work on all PS3s. PS2 backwards compatability only worked with the earliest generation machines. The PSN network has a bunch of PS1 games available to download for $5 each, including some rare RPGs like FF7, Suikoden 1 & 2, etc that go for $70ish on Ebay..so it's a nice deal. |

When it comes to games I'd consider buying stuff like:
latest Resident Evil and Silent Hill Installments, Dead Space, Fallout 3, Heavy Rain, FF 13, Uncharted 2, Dantes Inferno, CoD: Modern Warfare 2, etc.
Also, hopefully they soon go back to less fighting in horror games, and more being scared less. :) One of my favorite games was Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, the first part where you have no weapons and explore the creepy town of Innsmouth is just great. |
well, half those titles aren't on PC so id go for the PS3.
if you love your horror games, you can't go past condemned: criminal origins. terrifying. at least, when you're a stoned motherer. |

Funny you should mention FF... :p
I was actually after FF7, FF8, and FF9. I can get them easily enough on ebay , but don't know if the CDs will work in new the ps3. DLing the games might be quite different?
If it will be a around, I'll just buy a second hand ps2 for $50 and get them that way, but hey, if I could save $50.... |

I just got FF7 off PSN and it works fine. Loading times are obviously faster than a disc version. :) The PS3 also creates a virtual memory card with the internal memory, so you don't to worry about that either.
Also if you press start or select (I forget which one), it has an option to play in the original aspect ratio and to turn "smoothing" on to remove the jaggies. If you have a large set, I recommend you play this way. The game was designed to run in 640x480, so stretching it to a 16:9 widescreen looks pretty bad. |

Neat :) I'ma check that out. Playing on a 42" HD plasma, so removing the jaggy bits sounds nice hahahaha :p And I've never played FF7 before, either. |

| yeah sushi, i can't believe you havent played more of these interactive movies that re-defined linear gameplay and have the temerity to call themselves RPGs. |

| remember, the game is 14 years old.. No jaggies doesn't mean it won't be blocky. :) The characters who run around the overworld don't have many polygons and look pretty weak by today's standards. The FMV backgrounds and cut scenes are still awesome and the battle scenes have held up well though. |

DIE! :whip:
Yeah it was linear (only one possible ending)..but I loved the atmosphere and music of the game. The story and all the gameplay mechanics are classic Japanese RPG, and there are also a ton of optional side quests and areas you can visit if you want to get the best weapons and materia. If you play straight through the main quest without exploring or going for any of the bonus stuff, you will miss out on a lot. |

Dude, FF7 is ing brilliant storytelling regardless of the fact that it's fairly linear. Fantastic game. |

| FF7 is overrated douche refuse. FF9 is superior. Hell, even the creator of FF admits that 9 is what the series should be. |
