| Never played 9 so can't comment, though I never see as much praise heaped on it as with 7. |

| 9 was excellent too..It had a more old school/medieval/magical feel too it..not as high tech as FF7. I thought it was great, but not quite as good. |

Played FF8 (a lot, lol) and really liked it. Played FFX and X-2 as well. Wanted to check out 7 because everyone raves about it. I never had a PS way back then :p
Don't mind the graphics thing that much. |

| FF6 and FF9 are both more enjoyable games than FF7. I would rank the top 3 FF games in that exact order, actually, followed by FF4. |

9 would have been better if they had a more coherent story surrounding the "bad guys".. I played through the whole thing and honestly don't remember what they were up to or why they were so pissed off. Sephiroth in FF7 however was the ultimate badass.. He had epic strength and his reasons for wanting revenge on the world seemed pretty clear...and the unforgivable thing he did to "you know who" halfway through the game.. :whip: :( (don't spoil it for sushi) It's gotta make him the best video game villian of all time.

Yea Sephiroth was a massive part of what made the game great. I really need to finish it. I mean I know what happens but I should make the effort to finish it off.
One question, why do they still make the random combat so prevalent and though? Is there anyone that actually enjoys being attacked every 4 and a half steps when all you want to do is progress to the next area and talk to people or at least fight some important people? ing hell FF random fights me.
Speaking of epic games that need to be finished, I need to finish Planescape Torment. Gotta be one of the best stories in any form, ever. |

Dude, FF7 is ing brilliant storytelling regardless of the fact that it's fairly linear. Fantastic game. |
not doubting the stories. and to be fair i havent played a J "RP" G in more than a decade. so maybe they've improved. but the whole cutscene-cutscene-cutscene isn't what i play games for, and i like my RPGs to contain the odd bit of choice to feel like im having an impact on the story, rather than watching an interactive movie.
ill take the europeans ahead of the japs any day :) |

| Sephiroth is a whiny bitch compared to Kefka. |

It did get annoying sometimes..but you really need those battles to level up if you want to beat the major bosses. I believe there was some materia you can equip to reduce encounters by like 75%..and you can always run away from fights by holding L1 + R1. |

:stongue:
because coders couldn't alter the scale of difficulty/XP at all! agree with fledz, the random encounters suck huge dick. |

Yea that's fair enough. What I like about JRPGs is the emotional attachement to the characters and story. Call me a sook, but I really like the relationships and general interaction between characters as it's a different dynamic to western ones. I mean, games like KOTOR and Mass Effect have thrown the relationships in quite well, but not at the scale that they do with JRPGs. Mind you, the relationship between your play character and Bastila in KOTOR was pretty awesome. |
