the OP asked for the best place in TORONTO and i do think smokes would be the best in toronto.
your statement would be like me saying there is no good chinese food here in toronto because the best is in hong kong/china so nobody should eat chinese food here and must fly out to china. not a good answer. |
BS... we're taking about one Canadian/Provincial dish here, not a whole fricken nation's cuisine. It's not a foreign food FFS. |

as for restaurants/fine-dining - there are sooo many good places in town!! it really depends on your mood and your price range..
uh-oh! this thread is gonna make me hungry!!!!! |
For fine dining, for my law firm's Xmas party we went to Conviction. It was DELICIOUS! Trying to remember what Ian and I are off the top of my head, but can't right now. They let us pick from 3 different appetizers, entrees and desserts. Really good.
Also, haven't been, but Ian went to Canoe for a work lunch one day and said it was one of the best meals he's ever had. |

I enjoyed all the foods a lot :) deserts were mouth-watering
for my birthday, I've invited my friends to Nyood - http://www.nyood.ca/
food was breathtaking, small portions but great for sharing
lovely decor, super chill music, amazing stuff!
I will go back when I have a chance :) |

it's also ridiculously overpriced lol :) I don't recommend it to anyone, cos I ended up paying close to $80 just for myself there once |

well, regardless... the OP asked for the best in toronto, not the best in canada so suggest something in toronto. |

nota bene was really good. would def recommend that to anyone ...
nyood tho I wasn't a big fan of. the owners of nyood though also own blowfish and kultura (both of which I REALLY liked) so I would suggest checking those two out.
another REALLY good splurge dinner type spot ... splendido!!!
some other random favs ...
harbour 60 as well as barbarians (steak)
joso's (seafood adriatic style)
pizzeria libretto (authentic neapolitan style pizza)
burger bar (burgers duh)
alexandros - gyros and I loooooove their greek fries, the perfect drunker after boat cruise spot
all star wings & ribs (the new location in vaughan is pretty sweet)
poutinis - I used to think smokes was pretty decent but they seem to have gone downhill fast, I much prefer poutinis now on queen street ... |

Without question (because I've tried all of the bbq/slow smoked/pulled pork places in the core South of Eglinton) the best pulled pork & beef brisket is served at Phil's Original BBQ at Ossington and College. It's worth the trek over there as the prices are quite good for the amount of food you get, and the fact that the place permanently smells like a backyard bbq just adds to the awesome!
