I'm not bashing you for writing in an intelligent manner but sometimes it feels like a simple sentence or two would get your point across much clearer. Instead, it ends up with the two of you going back and forth with no one else understanding what the you are talking about...

if you can't handle it, don't read it. if you think this is overcomplicated, you must not read too much.

I read plenty, thanks. And I'd like to read this thread because the topic of discussion interests me.

I'll be the first to admit that your vocabulary is much bigger than mine (based on the posts on this forum anyway) but you seem to throw all sorts of terms and phrases into every post, and once I've gone through it and deciphered the bull, I realise that what you were actually saying could have been summed up in a much shorter, more concise manner.

SystemJ, in general, writes very clearly and gets his point across well....until he's posting back and forth with you, and then its as though he feels the need to mirror the waffle and bull style of writing that you use.

Though in your defense, of course I cant say you think paintings > films unless you blatantly say it, and in my defense i'm using the music ideals you've shared, what structures inherently narrarate, to make my understanding.

No.

The problem is you have some sort of agenda against me, as evidenced through your persistent flames, and you are trying to grasp at straws to pull together my agenda as another one of your insane conspiracy theories, without actually reading what I am writing and understanding it. Your idea of understanding is to take your preconceptions and prejudices and transform everything you read into evidence that proves your case. This is known as the 'paranoid critical method'

quote:
The aspect of paranoia that Dalí was interested in and which helped inspire the method was the ability of the brain to perceive links between things which rationally are not linked. Dalí described the paranoiac-critical method as a "spontaneous method of irrational knowledge based on the critical and systematic objectivity of the associations and interpretations of delirious phenomena."

I have nothing against 'stories'. LOL

and I am not inconsistent in what I've said. The reason you think I am inconsistent is because you have a preconception that I have some kind of universal, overriding preference that you are irrationally tagging to all everything I say. another conspiracy theory.

I don't like the trentemoller album. Its cinematic, but not cinematic enough. It's dancefloor, but not dancefloor enough. The tracks are hodgepodges of dance music quotations arranged like a pleasant indie movie. It's a limp-wristed accessory of pop culture, muzak suited to a car commercial rather than a film like 'Aguirre Der Zorn Gottes' or 'Blade Runner'.

If you want to come up with one theory for me, you might call me an atavist. Even in film, I much much prefer the raw school of Herzog to the special effects nonsense of Cameron.

All I have said in this discussion is that:

1.) Music can essentially be divided between the vertical and horizontal inclinations of composition. (but that it can share both characteristics)

2.) Prog is inclined to the horiztonal, whereas purist Techno, House, Trance, etc are inclined to the vertical.

3.) Joris Voorn makes proggy techno, some of it is more h than v, some is more v than h.

4.) Whether or not something is 'horiztonally inclined' or 'vertically inclined', when you carelessly or superficially (in order to copy or belong a genre or scene) combine elements of either inclination, you end up with a watered down product.

Well, I'm not a writer, what do you want me to say? SYSTEM-J is a writer. I have a much more difficult time saying what I want to say. I'd be the first to acknowledge that I could be a better writer.

That said, I am much more of a poet than a prose writer. I use a lot of loaded language and encode many things into what I say because it amuses me and allows me to think about things in new ways, and hopefully others as well. I like to make up words and phrases for amusement and expression. I like to create metaphors and binaries in order to cast a playful light on the discussion and frame the truth of the matter. I choose my words carefully even if they appear ambiguous, sometimes because I actually aim to express ambiguity.

I understand how this can be labeled 'bull'. Whatever, call names and point fingers. I know its not the best way to 'communicate', but it's the most powerful, and it suits my personality. As I said, if you don't like how I write, don't read it. There is an ignore button.

Try reading Barthes, Derrida, or Baudrillard, lol.

Why would I have an agenda against you? I'd say I find myself agreeing with many things you have said and shared, especially when it comes to musical taste, and some philosophy and analysis of many things that I see similarily. When it comes to music, the only thing I disagree with you is some of your ideals, the elitist stance and imposition of those ideals through self indulgent semantics and rhetoric. You made the connection between horizontal and cinematic, both here and the Trentemoller thread. And the connection between vertical and a picture/painting, which is fine and I agree with those connections. That said, if you favor vertical structured music (which you mentioned in this thread), its reasonable to say you also favor a painting/picture over a film. It was a bit cheeky in reasoning, but it had its logical grounds for the cheeky translation I made.

I dont think I got anything against ya buddy, of your kind, you are the beacon of light lol. So dont be paranoid and start conspiracy theories. :p

Powerful? It creates a disconnect between the message and the reader, which in turn limits dialogue and understanding between you and whoever you talk to on a forum. That said, I cant ask you to dumb down your rhetoric, I find it interesting and entertaining, but just know folks dont know what you are saying from time to time.

Today I learned that intricacy means complexity :)

I bet I won't remembered it after the next World Cup game and hearing those ing 100.000 Vuvuzela's like you're inside a giant nest of wasps. Better read this again tomorrow.
