i suppose you could see it like that. but bear in mind that 'opposed' doesn't necessarily mean exclusive here.
Could you post a track you think has non-song-like structure?

well that's great for you, and mistaken.
he makes some more proggy music and some less proggy music, get over it. relative to many detroit techno producers, he is proggier.

probably not. i could post one that has less of a song-like structure than the ones you did though. also could we use the word narrative? or at least define 'song'.

Twice. Hold the bus!!!!!!!

All music that lasts for any length of time is a sonic narrative. For me a song has some connection to the lyrical/poetic tradtion, it has very strong implications of verses, choruses, the singer foregrounded as central, presence over absence etc.

a couple other dj quotes for you.
"Trance had become a dirty word. Thanks to Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo, Flip 'N' Fill and DJ Sammy, a generation of kids has grown up thinking trance is the tiest music since country and western."
- Paul van Dyk
“I think all trance DJs deep down are embarrassed by what they play. They take it on the chin! They know deep down that they’re playing watered down techno.” – Dave Clarke
i think you can easily subsitute prog house or prog techno in either of these quotes.
joris voorn makes techno like things, but smells like prog. listen to an hour of rob hood and tell me otherwise. of course he idolizes detroit techno, so why would he ever want to market himself as progressive?

ok that's good.
i think your definition of 'sonic narrative' is metaphorical.
one's description of the music after listening to it, or the conception of it could be narrative, but the music itself need not be.
not narrative:
not narrative:
also in your definition of song rather than singer let's call it 'voice' rather than singer.

In 2007, I can remember Derrick May, Jeff Mills, etc. opening or playing "Revelation".
He's not as attached to the Detroit sound as people from UR, etc. but the sound is one of his main influence. Which is -in his case- more important than devoutly making music in one single style.

It depends. A narrative requires causality, and I suppose there is a degree of metaphor to the idea of causality connecting musical events. I suppose there's no fabula or sjuzet in music either, or perhaps the two simply collapse in the same way signifier and signified do. They're not dissimilar concepts.
But I think your concept of narrative here is more evocative than technical. The metaphorical issues above affect all music equally, and you seem to be alluding to more of a sense of journey.
