doubtful
doubtful still is parking. not to mention u run the risk of your car being used as a burning barricade that weekend. |

PLEASE LEAVE THE FENCES ALONE
in an effort to recover some of the expenses paidout for security... we at the MTCC have decided to leave the Tags on the fences so that after the summit is over.... we can just return them to homedepot and get the taxpayers money back

Trees latest G20 security casualities
First it was trash cans, transit shelters and mailboxes. The latest casualty of G20 security concerns are saplings that line city sidewalks.
The trees could be ripped out of the ground by demonstrators “and then you’ve got a huge bar,” said Constable Wendy Drummond, a spokeswoman for the Integrated Security Unit. Despite promises from summit organizers to replace the trees once foreign leaders leave town on June 27, the move bewilders tree lovers.
“The idea that tearing down something that’s going to be living for 100 more years for a three-day meeting is insane,” said Mark Calzavara a spokesman for the Council of Canadians.
The trees will be removed from within the RCMP-controlled zone, which envelopes the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and the surrounding area. Organizers would not say which trees or how many will be hauled away.
“If they’re removing any trees, it’s because they don’t want folks to jump over and launch things from above,” said local city councillor Adam Vaughan.
Mr. Calzavara says the thought that a sapling could be turned into a weapon is “outrageous.”
“I would challenge the police to get a couple of burly officers and try to pull one of these trees out of the ground,” he said. “You’d need an axe to cut the thing down. And if you’ve already got an axe, you wouldn’t need a tree.” |

American tourist beware: Toronto has joined the U.S. State Department’s list of unsafe travel destinations, joining the ranks of gang-war-ravaged Jamaica and East Asia’s typhoon alley.
Washington issued the travel alert for Americans who live in Toronto or plan to visit the city during the G20, warning that the summit will draw large numbers of protesters.
“Even demonstrations that are meant to be peaceful can become violent and unpredictable. You should avoid them if at all possible,” the advisory said.
The alert also advises U.S. citizens to forego travelling in or through downtown Toronto during the summit, anticipating “significant traffic disruption.”
Toronto Mayor David Miller called the alert an “overreaction,” saying that while parts of downtown will be disrupted, other parts of the city will be unaffected by the June 26-27 summit.
Protests and rallies are expected to begin the week leading up to the summit.
On June 26, thousands are expected to turn out to the People First! march, but organizers have vowed that the event will be a peaceful, family affair. However, protest organizers have confirmed that numerous activists plan to splinter from the larger demonstration and continue a “militant” march to the security perimeter.
Washington says the temporary travel alert expires June 28.
The exclusive list of travel alerts includes just six countries and regions. Among them is Jamaica, where the capital city has become the battlefield between government forces and gangs. Also on the list is South Africa during the World Cup, where the State Department warns U.S. citizens could be exposed to terrorism, crime and public health risks.
“Isn’t it ironic that the World Cup and the G20, two international gatherings by definition, have travel alerts?” said Andrew Weir of Tourism Toronto.
This is only the third time in recent history that Toronto has been brushed with a travel alert. In 2003, the World Health Organization issued travel advisories after several cases of SARS were diagnosed in the city. Less authoritatively, the San Francisco Chronicle published a warning to Toronto-bound Americans about garbage piling up during the municipal strike in 2009.
In other G20 news:
• The Toronto Police union is calling for Sid Ryan to resign after the labour leader suggested police may plant agents provocateurs among the G20 protesters to incite violence.
Mike McCormack, president of the Toronto Police Association, denounced Ryan’s comments that police could use disguised agents to cause chaos in order to provoke a violent response from security forces as “irresponsible, inflammatory and idiotic.”
Ryan said he laughed at McCormack’s comments. “Police have used agents provocateurs in the past and we think it’s a possibility they could be used here. I raised the spectre.”
• The Hester How Daycare Centre inside City Hall will be closed during from June 24-27 for safety reasons, a notice to the parents said. “The RCMP and Toronto police have strongly recommended that children should not travel through the downtown core on those days due to potential violence.”
• The Toronto Community Mobilization Network unveiled its new “convergence space” on Queen St. W. for protesters to gather, share ideas, grab some food and hang out during the summit.
