do you really think any other government would spend less??? maybe the NDP but definatly not the Liberals. They are all crooks, and Orko said it best, are WE the citizens getting a return on this "investment", I hardly think so, and whats worse is I'm sure the businesses that are surely going to be disturbed or destroyed will most likely not be compensated. |

You'd have to take out, give or take a few city blocks for that number to be $1.1 billion.
I say take the no prisoners approach. Bye bye politicians. |

:haha: :haha: :haha: Yeah, imagine it will all be peaceful, then it would be a hell of a financial debacle. Come on, this is Canada and not USA or UK where the anarchists are bat crazy (or is it just the agent provocateurs). The last one in Canada was so boring, that police had to get their own agent provocateurs going to make the headlines more worthwhile, as they had nothing else to tell the media. I really hope (I know its hopeless) that they better dam achieve something BIG or IMPORTANT at this 2010 G8/G20, because I will be keeping my eye very very closely on the developments this time around.

hold on, you think the NDP might spend less than all of them? Do you really know the NDP?
No the NDP would triple the cost spending money to make sure that equal number of women and men were hired, visible minorities and handicapped security guards for starters. |

Toronto Police Purchased 4 "Sound Cannons" For G20: Report
The near $1 billion price tag for the upcoming G8 and G20 summits may have your head spinning, but crowd control devices acquired by Toronto Police will have you covering your ears.
According to a report in the Toronto Star, authorities purchased four long range acoustic devices, or L-RADs, also known as sound cannons, for the upcoming G20 summit June 26th and 27th.
Police said the devices will likely be used as communication devices. The L-RADs also double as loud speakers.
Authorities in Pittsburgh were criticized for their use of sound cannons during the G20 summit last September when they unleashed an assault of piercing beeps before throwing tear gas and stun grenades to disperse a crowd marching toward the summit venue. It was the first time sound cannons had been used in public.
The truck-mounted model can emit an ear-splitting 143 decibels, far above the pain threshold of 110 to 120dB.
Some worry that if misued L-RADs could violate protesters’ rights.
The Star reports three of the four L-RADs purchased by Toronto Police are handheld models capable of emitting sound heard up to 600 metres away with a volume up to 135dB. |
Wow that is messed up. 143 dBs?! |
