| If you don't have to be downtown during the summit then don't be... if I worked downtown I would be taking vacation around this time. |

I was listening to AM640 and a caller had a great idea for security. Take all the leaders ad put them on a warship in the middle of Lake Ontario and have the summit on the ship. |
This idea is similar to holding the event on a military base. Sounds like a good idea until you realize how many people would complain that these will be secret meetings thus diminishing the right to meaningful protest. Security does have to be balanced with access. Personally, I agree with the poster above who suggested holding this event near the airport. Protesters could be accommodated at Downsview.
I know a few have asked why they aren't holding the G20 in Huntsville as well. Reality is the venue is too small. When Prince Andrew was here a couple of years ago for a tour of CFB Borden, the security detail was 20 strong. Now multiply that by 20. Then add in admin and policy support staff and it's a pretty big entourage that must be housed.
David Miller should be shot for not ensuring that businesses will be compensated for protest damage. He claims there was an agreement in place; however, if there are no signatures to it then it doesn't exist and he dropped the ball. For three days, it might be worth it for businesses to hire private security guards on a 24 hour basis to secure stores. Pressure also needs to be put on police to ARREST protesters damaging property. This isn't designed to tie up the courts and bring charges, it's so that businesses can verify the correct person to sue for damages since many won't have the insurance to cover damage to windows. |

The proposed zone business irks me to no end. My company is within the proposed zone, and we have to move offices, which is being derailed by this. This means our entire produciton (next 7 months) is being put behind schedule because nobody wants to help move during the summit.
Worst is that we still don't know what type of security clearance I need in order to come in on the weekends to prepare for the move. |

| My office is in the zone too, we don't have to move though. We just get passes. |

I'm in the zone too! Which building you at?
Right now we are scheduled to work from home on the Thursday & Friday, and pending how things go (or how madly things are leading up to the G20) we might be advised to work from home all week!

Our office is actually closed on the Thursday and Friday and I believe that was a request from property management.

WTF how can 800M$ be spend on security alone in two days?!?!?
If you give 100k to every cop for each day, a completely ridiculous amount, that's still enough for 40,000 cops!!
Something is wrong here, maybe that 800M$ is just a typo or something. |
3 days.. don't forget that the G8 Summit it happening at pretty much the same time
as for those complaining about places if business being in the zone.. at least your not at Ground 0 |

so, did Jean Cretin gave the you to Quebec and BC when those provinces hosted G8/G20 too? |
Yes.
Simply because these event are the very definition of an inconvenience to those living in the cities which "host" them.
Since Harper is the current leader, it is makes more sense to discuss this as Jay noted; the mistakes and lessons learned.
Harper has clearly learned nothing. |
