dunno how many security personnel are involved, but i know the canadian military is bringing a lot of dudes down, in case hippies go out of control and riot cops can't handle the situation

I was reading about this Integrated Security Unit having 100% control on all the security for G20. They are taking over the Royal York Hotel for all the RCMP coming, and I think it's gonna be pretty crazy to get around downtown unless you have a verifiable reason to be there. I'm guessing this is why the city is trying to shut down clubs and bars in certain areas?

Also, I read that the reason the cost for the G8+G20 is so high is because the Integrated Security Unit is using alot of new temporary security technologies for the events. Has anyone seen the mini cameras at almost all the major intersections downtown?

Just wait for the Sound Cannons that the cops have apparently got

I read that through here :

After reading the big article in the globe, I kind of see how it adds up. The two summits together is an enormous undertaking. And comparing it to the Olympics is like apples and oranges - big deal the Olympics was 20 or so days - the threat on 20 world leaders over a one week period is far far bigger than anything Olympic related.

The violent protesters are costing my tax dollars. If they were all peaceful, I'd be happier.

This doesnt make any sense at all. How is that the G20 at in 2009 held London cost ONLY $30 millions,The official price tag for security at last year's G20 summit in Pittsburgh was listed at $18 million US, according to municipal and U.S. federal officials.so why on earth would cost the Canadians $930 millions?

A billion to secure a meeting where a bunch of world criminals gather to figure out how to fix their debt problems and get their picture taken? :whip:

:eyespop: :eyespop: :eyespop: :eyespop: thats a big sum. It for sure has to be a typo. If its not. Now thats some big spending for no reason, when it could go towards Arctic defence and newer subs and frigates.

If they want security they should buy a private island or at least do the meetings on military bases. just borrow a cruise ship lol

I think most of that figure are salaries that will already be spent on these officers/cops, specialists... it's not like they'll hire thousands of RCMP officers for a week alone.

I think this figure is more about impressing the world that we are big ballers, we take this seriously.

The cost is for both the G20 and the G8 combined.
There is a breakdown in the globe of what is going where.

I saw on the news today that this is actually going to top 1 Billion. man what a waste.

What we really need to look at obviously is cost/benefit. Are we going to receive $1b of benefit from this cost? Hells in no.

These nitwits have proved they cannot sort out a country's, or world's economic problems, especially considering they cause most of them.

My MP is going to get an earful.

Now $1.1 billion and counting. Any bets this thing goes to $2 billion?

The cost of hosting the G8 and G20 summits next month in Ontario now stands at $1.1 billion and further costs are likely, federal documents show.

That's much higher than the $933 million security bill the Tories revealed earlier this week.

The federal government is spending another $160 million for the international summits, beyond the $933 million for policing the events.

Liberal MP Mark Holland calls it the most expensive 72 hours in Canadian history.
