in my country the warm up dj is there to test the sound because if 20.000 people go to see the headliner to see the warm up dj he would be lucky if 500 go to see him.
People skip this kind of things, if you go to a trance party you want trance not house or lowtempo tracks.
However listening to 140 bpm tracks all the time is a bit boring too.
Depending on how the previous dj ends his set you can start banging or more calmed.
You can start at 140 bpm, slow down to 134-135 and start building again , see how the people behave and act accordingly that's why dj's exist. |

My facepalm was directed at your and apparently other trance DJ's complete lack of understanding for how building up a night with dance music works. If every DJ goes out and "brings out the bangers" like you suggested, the whole night will become a futile start-stop affair, where the crowd gets worn out halfway through the lineup because every DJ thinks making a big impact means pulling out the big tunes and anthems for 2 hours straight.
Somebody needs to start and construct the gradual build towards the eventual climax of the night, and as such, it's important to know which one of these two duties the winner of the contest will have.
Seeing as you're too dense to understand this, I sincerely hope for the sake of the crowd at Tomorrowland that you do not win the contest. |
I'm not even a trance dj you clown; I usually play Prog.
Second it's a festival; it's supposed to be banging all day. It's not a club setting. I didn't construct the lineup now did I? GTFO.
I almost feel like I don't even need to acknowledge your post. Playing bangers doesn't mean you necessarily play anthems for two hours straight; it just means there are going to be lots of entries so you should be playing your best stuff.
Second of all this is a contest. Contests are made to be won. Just because I play one thing in the contest doesn't mean I'm going to play the same thing at the festival. Maybe you enjoy being a part of the cookie cutter club but I sure as hell do not. |

I've been at loads of festivals where people have started out mellow in the early hours and slowly drawn people in, so that's a load of .

Your "best" stuff isn't determined by whether it's a "banger" or not. It's determined by how you place it in a set and how you construct that set. If you play two hours of "bangers" in a row, none of them are going to stand out, and thus not have nearly as much impact as dropping two or three after a good buildup where the crowd is absolutely begging you to release the tension.
These are basic mixing philosophies, and the fact that you can't even grasp that tells me you are a mediocre DJ that really shouldn't be playing to a dancefloor in the first place. |

Step 1 - Preach about generic set structuring (Check)
Step 2 - Go listen to any of my mixes
Step 3 - Slap yourself with your when you realize you stepped out of your place.
Step 4 - Never come back to this forum because you're an idiot and contribute nothing but troll posts.
The terminology of "banger" is open to interpretation. To me when I say I'm bringing out the bangers it means I am going into the tracks MADE FOR THE CLUB. Festival same thing. You're not gonna play the same you play in radio sets which are made for at home listening. You can play your 8 minute long breakdowns and choral whisps; structure 4 song builds and do everything else prototypically and I will continue to laugh at you as the bane of the industry.
Thirdly; get a clue come up with your own style and stop humping what everyone has done for 15 years. There is a reason trance died and there is a reason it is coming back. The "old guard" is not part of the comeback. This refers to both the dj's; the producers; the style; and the mindset.
Fourth I probably have more knowledge here than 90% of the board and between production; dj'ing and mastering I arguably put more time into my music than anyone else on the board (12-16 hrs/day).
I fully intend to win this competition. We will see how you fare my friend. You barked up the wrong tree, now go home and suck on mommas tit.
