| What I heard of Tone Depth's set was awesome. Lawler started out slow and monotonous, but it picked up around 5h45 until 6ish, then it went back to the way it was. It picked up again at some point, but I was too tired to care then. Oh, my feet.. |

tone depth made me want to kill myself .. such random programming. he started out pretty good then completely lost me
lawlers set wasn't his best, not even close .. but it was good
it was my first time back at stereo since pride 08 so I was impressed. I wish guv would step it up. the view from the booth is phenomenal. |

I very much enjoyed Lawler's set, he played hard, deep, techy, proggy, I even enjoyed the few vocal tracks, teasing us with tribal samples too..
I also love the manner in which Tone Depth opened for Lawler. He didn't push the soundsystem, it just got louder and harder as the night went on.
What I didn't like was how Tone Depth closed... he started playing banging techno and tech house and whatnot, then started playing a few deep tracks and I thought he'd tone it down a notch and end the night by playing less agressively, but no, he was all over the place. I left at 9:15..
Probably the best looking crowd I've ever seen, the most hetero I've ever seen. Dance floor was a pleasure, nice and cool, well ventilated.
I saw Kotsy and another TOTA in the bathroom, he said he took a bunch of epic videos.. looking forward to it. |

My first time at stereo was absolutely incredible!! I was really impressed with Tone Depth's opening set and thought Lawler played really well. Nice meeting you MTLTAs!! I'll be back soon :)
Videos should be up in the next few days. Time to get ready for round 2 @ The Guvernment/Sky Bar :toothless :toothless |

Lawler's intro was spectacular but I thought there were a few too many "change the pace and create drama" moments, slowing the set too much for me, almost like an epic trance set :p
Beautiful techy latin beats, much of it sounding like that Ibiza mix many of us denounced but man, you have to hear it in a big room, not on your pc's. Lawler's set was diverse, bit of tribal, lots of tech, some old school new wave sounding funky stuff, some obsure tracks that perhaps ran too long, too flat but he would bring the dancefloor back at will, he truly played with the floor and showed his control behind the decks.
From a personal standpoint the set lacked the relentless intensity and darkness that I was looking for but artistically this set was stellar, if that makes any sense.
Nice chatting with you TOTAs. It was a different crowd indeed, the car wash boys mostly stayed home that night :p |

| Not be be left out, Tone Depth was great, showed serious skill. The warm up set was smooth, tech-funky and respectful. I say respectful because he showed his intense side after Lawler's set and wouldn't let us leave at a proper time. Nice work :) |

i was gonna write a long ass review but spin laden pretty much stole the words out of my mouth......
tone depth...WOW - at first i was like WTF i want lawler all night..........................duhhhhhhhhhhh i was wrong, amazing set!!! really set the mood for the night!! upbeat drummy tech that had us all engulfed from the start
lawlers intro, for me, was OK, i was expecting something darker and more eerie.....
but lawlers set.......BEST i've heard from him out of the 5 times i've seen him. i was "hoping" for a lotta tribal (lol of course - its me we're talking about :haha: ) instead we got a more "diverse/recently influenced" lawler, taking us back and forward, left to right, newschool maroccan/latino style drummy-percussiony influence house, tribal, creepy tech.....some of his breakdowns and drops were U N F U C K I N G R E A L......totally twisted my brain cell membranes
around 5am he just turned the lights off completely, started banging out this ing sick tribal tune - i was sooooooooooo ready for him to switch his set over to baning tribal but it was just a tease heheh but im not complaining - he delivered - its my birthday - im at stereo - with my amazing friends - flew hi above the ceiling and came back down........all in all twas a superrrrrrrrrrrrrrb night :)
again, stereo's sound is, bar none, the absolute BEST system i've gotten the priviledge to experience.....NO WHERE have i ever 'felt' the music as good as stereo....some tracks lawler dropped pretty much forced me into grinding with the speaker stacks in the corners LOL
stereo = my new home. honestly - the $$ to travel up and stay at a hotel is totally worth the experience.....lawler down, tenaglia next
get ready stereo - imma be back and those speakers are gonnnnnnnnnnnnnnna get abused by me!!!!!!! ;);) :stongue: |

lawler groovyness = best groovyness on earth!!!
and yes, again i forgot to mention but spin laden made a good point - there were many moments where "i felt" that lawler could've taken it to "the next level" but he held back and was a bit conservative- but u know what???? the fact that he "consistently" held us at his fingertips was more than enough to "balance" out the evening and to turn it into a superior edm event..... honestly there's no drama in mtl, everyones having an amazing time and enjoying themselves, the way it should be from day one :)
cheers! |

Ok. So for me... Lawler is back!
Tone Depth started of the night with a really good warm up set. Set the mood and got the crowd moving. What I always love about Stereo is going up to the seating areas and just dancing away, watching the crowd just continue erupt. Such a great way to get the party going. The energy is so contagious.
Lawler. Out of the 6 big room sets I’ve seen him play, this was my top performance. Steve kind of lost me in his VIVA London and Toronto days (even though he did it for our city); but he was back in top performance. After his past two mediocre gigs at the Guvernment in 2008 and 2009, I was hoping for great, but keeping my expectations at par. The intro to his set was decent, not the best I’ve heard, but when he brought it up he let it drop. Techy, tribal infused, rolling chugging proggy monsters... I was eating it up. Sure he does the long drawn build ups, but when he comes back with a deep heavy bass beat, watch out... the rooms explodes. Love when he just silences down the tune, you wait, lights are low.... here it comes again.
Friends wanted Tribal Lawler.... I did not. I wanted grimy sleazy twisted up LawlerHouse.... and that is what I got.....
Little dissapointed he only played for 4 hours... however, I had to catch a train ride home in the morning so at least I saw everything he had to offer that night. Rested up... Two more sets @ Guvernment/Skybar awaited me....
Had an incredible weekend rolling around on my LawlerSkates....
Nice to meet you Ms. Haus & Spin Laden. Hope to see you in the temple again one day....:) |
