Man oh Man Spin....those ARIA videos really take me back... I miss those days sometimes.... ARIA has some killer nights without a doubt!
As for Friday , I would say nobody has anything to worry about...Lawler will deliver!
Whether some of his sets disappoint you or not the simple fact is a DJ or producer simply can't be "everything to everyone", and I think that's true in his various live sets throughout the last several years.
IMO his sets are a combination of how he feels in the moment and who he is playing for... and we should love him for that!
When I saw him live @ SPACE in Ibiza last year he had alot of percussion and latin sounds mixed into the dark tech tracks he was playing...will that be well received by the MTL underground...prob not but the guy wasn't in Montreal guys...
I saw with my own eyes Lawler delivering a killer set which was extremely successful in Ibiza , so the guy did the job he needed to do.
At the Bell Centre I think he did an amazing job. There is some truth to the notion that he didn't sound like he did on "Dark Drums" or "Lights Out" but what's wrong with that? Let the artist evolve and experiment as without this you will never get the creativity and originality that will one day blow your mind.
I personally take my hat off to the guy for having the balls to try different stuff and refuse to let anyone define who he is.
At one point people in the industry tried to slap him as a prog DJ , and he refused to accept that label so he changed his sound and explored a different direction with his sets. Obviously it won't please everyone but that doesn't mean he can't come to Montreal and still light the place up.
Not too many DJs have the guts to let their live recordings get torn apart and critcized to death by everyone around the world like this and for this reason he is not only one of my musical inspirations as a DJ and producer but a primary influence to my own sound.
During the 18 years as a professional DJ , Lawler has been referred to as "THE KING OF SPACE" ( Ibiza ) and I don't see too many DJs who has been given that title in their lifetime so let's cut him a little slack...
Very few can do what he does as well as he does it...
Bottom line is this: He is in MTL this Friday and he will deliver the goods...and as good ( or better ) as anyone else can...which is all you can ask from a DJ... |

you cheeky cheeky little man.
Have fun on Friday, sweeties. I highly doubt Mr Lawler will make my tush throb like he used to during that dark tribal phase so I am going to see Mr Tenaglia only, Mr 'DT' if you will.
Mr Enjoy, do you know what 'DT' also stands for? :) |

I should be there...
Haven't been out to a club or an after...in a freakin' while!
Musically, I don't expect him to be on point during the whole set. I know that it's going to be a roller coaster ride but when he will deliver...it's going to be fantastic!
See you guys there! |
