It is the biggest myth EVER that the GOP has been able to control or stop anything. Are you kidding me? Majorities in the House, Senate, Congress, a Democrat President, and Democrat Speaker of the House. Dude what are you smoking? What more do you need? "Yeah sure we'll accept Republican proposals/ideas into the bills"... meanwhile in the real world, Republicans get physically locked out of meetings discussing what goes in the bills. Bush had plenty of Democrats voting with him on several issues, including going into Iraq. Hell, Bush even tried to push for ing amnesty in 2007! The only bipartisanship has been in resistance- that should tell you something. The public rejects all of Obama's big ticket items. ALL of them! But he soldiers on, forcing 2000+ page bills through, knowing this. THAT is unchecked one party rule that makes Bush look like a piker in comparison. I can't believe you just wrote the above statement. You're a smart dude but this is crazy man. :wtf:

And about the health care bill, I don't get why liberals are so upset. You'll get what you want if you're patient... what's in place now will lead to single-payer, BY DESIGN. Just because it wasn't instituted in 48 hours doesn't mean you have to fly off the handle screaming "obstructionist!" Insurance companies are folding like lawn chairs already, and in a few years there will be no other alternatives. I don't get liberal anger right now at all. You got the most powerful Democrat majority in all phases of government since FDR, and you're still not happy. I guess seeing all the theoretical utopian dreams falling apart now that full-bore Democrat policies are actually being applied, thus leading to a major electoral backlash in 2 months is disheartening? No need to project that anger on those of us who just want to be left alone to grow and prosper without Big Brother breathing down our necks.

I think he was taking issue with the Democrats for being pussies. Surely, you disagree on a whole range of issues but Jesus - the Dems are ing playing into partisan mythology and are just about as worthless as when the Republicans held the majority. Okay. A few things are happening but it is absolutely compromised in every since of the word. No one is running roughshod over anyone and, honestly, the Dems are due - they are just too ing to take it by the balls.

The far left wingnuts are a much smaller faction in terms of voting blocks... so I'm sure the powers that be are thinking, "Who gives a if they're pissed that we didn't throw Bush/Cheney in jail and force everyone to drive electric cars- we know when the time comes they'll still vote Democrat." But the Dems are definitely NOT pussies in routinely voting against what the public wants the past 20 months. That is going to be their downfall in November- the political class IS the problem, and are utterly tone deaf to what the people want; they seriously don't believe it has anything to do with their failing policies. At what point does Obama become responsible for the current state of affairs and stop crying "Bush!" like a little baby... after 3.5 years? It's a ing joke.

I think "what people want" when it comes to framing a discussion in that context, is so based on complete and utter misinformation that you're going to be lucky to find, between two of them, a common agreement about what the problems really are. Even when you find that agreement, the actual problems themselves are so nebulously defined that the conclusions they're apt to come to about how to solve them are going to be so utterly retarded that to incorporate those into legislation is ineffectual, at best, with just dangerously stupid, in close second.

And I agree - it's not just Bush's fault and now's as good a time as any to really understand that Bush, alone, could not have possibly affected so many stupid policies. Deregulation was made most evident in Clinton's tenure. It still has a lot to do with the problems we're facing, today.

This is a good point. It would be better said that people know what they don't want... and that seems to be further government expansion, spending, and regulation over their decisions in whatever form it takes.

How this is informed is largely a matter of the information that is available to people. *Argument Negating Cliche's seem to be great motivators. Unfortunately, like a CNN broadcast, there is very little substance behind them.

*This is from a book I was finishing up reading right before I joined TA, called Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism: A Study of 'Brainwashing' in China by Robert Lifton. If you want eerie similarities with what's going on in the United States and its political dialogue, one need look no further than this book.

YES there ARE republicans who get locked out of meetings when discussing bills, just as the SAME has occurred vice VERSA. I did not say the GOP was in control, and they clearly have NOT been able to STOP everything. But they have been successful in watering down every single measly progressive bill that has come to the table to the point where it is almost unrecognizable to liberals like me. Finally NEWSFLASH: WE DONT WANT TO ACCEPT OR USE ANY OF YOUR STUPID ING PROPOSALS. Government does not work that way. Republicans were not required to acquiesce to the needs and concerns of democrats and liberals in this country for 8 years (they mostly did nothing of the sort) and neither should we NOW. Except that your noise machine is louder than ours and you control most of the discourse in this country. You also have more money behind it. Good job. It's working. You've successfully convinced most Americans Obama is a socialist akin to Lenin. (nevermind that any historian would laugh in your ing face if you said this country was socialist.)

Yeah and guess what, I don't vote for those idiots. Thank god Obama had the sense not to vote for the war.

No they don't! I AM PART OF THE PUBLIC! And there are plenty of people like me out there WHO DONT AGREE WITH YOU or GLENN BECK. I know school teachers here in California who kept their jobs because of the stimulus bill's aid to states. I know people who have been out of work for almost two years who are desperate for a tiny extension in federal unemployment benefits, hoping they can get through the next few months and keep a roof over their child's head and hopefully find meaningful employment, NO THANKS TO THE RIGHT. I know a guy currently serving his 3rd tour in Afghanistan who wonders why the hell he has to leave his german wife at home and go prop up one of the most corrupt governments in the world in the name of our security. I know a mother without healthcare for the first time in almost 30 years after being laid of from her job who has to pay out of her own pocket to go get a checkup at the doctor. WHAT BIG TICKET ITEMS ARE DESTROYING OUR LIVES?

Well I'm sorry, that you FORGOT that there are OTHER people in this country who do not agree with you, who voted for OBAMA and all those democrats in congress, and who WANT OUR AGENDA to get passed. I'm sorry that spending a trillion dollars of stimulus money IN THIS COUNTRY, to keep states afloat during the worst recession since the 30s and try and spur some SMIDGEN of growth, makes you absolutely livid. I'm sorry that wanting EVERY AMERICAN to have SOME KIND OF BASIC ING HEALTHCARE is SO TERRIBLE. I guess I'm just ing crazy.

Because despite what you think, WE ARE NOT GETTING WHAT WE WANT, and it is INFURIATING for people like you to suggest we are.

WHAT HAS BEEN APPLIED? What theoretical utopian dreams have been shattered? Barely anything has even happened, we are slowly coming out of a massive recession. It will take years to fix the country, it will take a huge amount of work to get us back on track. The banks are posting billions of dollars in profits. So is wall street. Glenn Beck made THIRTY TWO MILLION DOLLARS LAST YEAR. What is going wrong in America for you ing s?

HE WANTS TO INCREASE TAXES ON PEOPLE MAKING over 250k a YEAR OH MY GOD ITS SO HORRIBLE!

Only 3% of Americans make more than that a year. Everyone else would see a tax BREAK.

Heaven forbid anyone in this country ever try and extend a hand to those on the BOTTOM instead of those on TOP.
trancypantzzz
yeah the great stimulus is being put to work down the street from me. apparently "creating jobs" means ripping up a major road during rush hour (that doesn't need paving btw) and repaving it causing a major traffic jam. got to have silky smooth roads and perfect bridges to transport all the chink garbage.

Also, if you want to know my view on the Senate of today, which is a microcosm for the pitiful way in which our current government now functions on the whole, read this fantastic piece:

http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/...currentPage=all

quote:
In the current Senate, it has become normal for a handful of senators, sometimes representing just ten or twenty per cent of the country’s population, to hold everything up. And the status quo has become sufficiently frustrating that a few new senators have considered a radical option: mutiny.

I might be late for this, but every participant looks retarded in that first video.

I like full blown retard.

Clovis, I love you.
