you have the announcer crying head shot, but hits like this are part of hockey and should not be removed from it. The big hit can be more exciting than the goal. This ain't ringette.
I wouldn't call it a dirty hit to the head.....he clearly is not coming from behind or a blind sport to make the hit. The issue I have with the hit is the upward motion and leaving the feet. You could make that same hit without making that upward motion.
I agree that a big hit can be a momentum changer in a game but the players still need to think before they hit.
You can't and shouldn't take hitting out of the game. Let the players police themselves more by getting rid of the instigator rule. There are too many players who run around hitting the out of anyone and everyone without any regard for safety. They may think twice about being stupid if they actually have to stand up to an enforcer for what they did.

At some point the player with puck posession or in the immediate area of the puck has to take some responsibility to keep their heads up. You will also notice that are few players are becoming great at selling in terms of drawing penalties on perfectly fine hits. How many times do we see players purposely turn their backs in the corner last minute to try and draw a hit from behind penalty?
If Doughty doesn't make that hit, Hall skates around him like a pylon (aka homo komisarus maximus.) and gets a scoring chance.
Subban hit him right in the chest with his back. No shoulder, no elbow, just body to body. Leaving your feet does not always mean penalty or intent to injure. Even with a nice low hip check you leave your feet to increase your momentem in the goal of slowing the opposing player. This is what Doughty did, he could have hip checked him in the same way i just described and probably hurt him worse in this situation.

it's total garbage these days when you see fights starting from 'solid' hits. I love fights probably more than anyone on here :p but not when it's because a dude can't handle a solid hit.
Bring back the Scott Stevens forearm shot to the head :p

also: Say what you will about Subban, but at his tender age he is one hell of a hockey player. I don't think there is one team in the NHL that would not want a prospect of this nature.
It is about time the habs have a well rounded skilled player that can get into the other team's stars heads. Look what he was able to do to Crosby in the playoffs last year. So what, Poulet Kentucky is cocky, the league needs guys like him to sell the sport.
Wisnewski is the dirty player, and there is no doubt he will provide you with something legitimately dirty for you this year. Hopefully on Kessel.:p

dude... pk is a supastar.... end of story
most teams would give up quite a lot for him :P but he's ours BITCHES
Zyklon_Jay
I can't believe we got Wisnewski for nothing still. He isn't a superstar, but to fill up big shoes quickly due to injuries and not give up a roster player is nuts.

PFK may get his ass handed to him at some point in the reg season but his cocky attidude is taylor-made for the playoffs, in terms of what ANF's post articulates.
Habs do not have policemen to protect him during the season but in the playoffs it won't matter as much, when the goons sit or when bad retaliatory penalties make teams pay even more.
PFK wouldn't survive in the old NHL :p

The kid can actually toss them. He doesn't need pilates classes like Lapierre.:p

yeah, once he gets his fighting balance issues down :p
geez, one can argue that the NHL is already in playoff mode, what with the salary cap and defensive systems, rolling lines, etc.. there's so much parity now as a result, imo.
No more room for goons and bad penalities, even during the reg season too. This is maybe the best thing for a team like Montreal that doesn't waste roster spots on one-dimensional goon type players.
