Well you know, sometimes people don't get paid until the 30th and need to make rent on the 1st. When a check is dated with the 1st, I think that should be respected by the person that's cashing it. What that date is saying is "I guarantee the funds will be here on this date," not before.
Thats all Im saying. |

and some people are grown up and realize that living paycheck to paycheck is not something that anyone should do. It's called being responsible, building up a 1 or 2 month cushion in your savings to cover the inevitable unexpected expenses that happen in life, instead of crying that your landlord tried to get money you owed him a day early.
it's quite pathetic honestly...maybe you should ask your parents for the money then. |

Moi? Well duh, the landlord would destroy the cheques. :p
I truly did have the best leandlords though. They were a married couple who owned a few big properties in my neighbourhood. They took such good care of everything, and dealt with issues right away all the time.
They didn't want me to leave. The husband always said "I wish we had 12 more like you."
I miss 'em. :/ |

yeah but what if you signed a lease and ditched out of the lease early? it's not the best business practice but i wouldn't pay them for the time i'm not living there even if i did breach contract. writing the checks beforehand ensures that they're gonna get your money unless you call the bank and tell them to cancel them.
i pay cash by the 5th of each month. no problems. my landlord(s) are pretty cool too even if i'm occasionally late as long as i let 'em know what up. |

This is why people should date their cheques to only be cashed on a certain day, and to place holds on cheques or establish a enddate check.
This is a major flaw of chequeing that allows banks and individuals to manipulate peoples cash flows.
Checks should not only have an initialization date but a data that can have them expire if they arn't cashed by a given day.
You might try to place a hold on your funds for every cheque you write with your bank.
Eg. if you write a $500 cheque you can then contact your bank and request a hold on $500 until the cheque number has cleared.
They might do this for a fee or for free. I feel your pain, I've had a number of chequing issues in the past, and unfortunately many companies don't do this.
If possible why not set up a direct deposit arrangement with your landlord or alternative payment arrangements such as money order.
That is set aside those funds for a given chequing item.
same idea as doing it via money order

They will add about 10$ to your rent cost though.
