| When I was about 15 or so I would sometimes have a horrific, white-hot pain shoot down the back of my left leg when I walked. It would only last a second, but holy it was terrible. There is a chiropractor down the street and my Grandma said it was okay if I went. It was pretty great, actually! He found a slightly out of place disc right where the white-hot pain would start. After a few sessions I didn't have that pain anymore and the disc wasn't so out of place. I didn't have that nerve pain come back until last year when I took a really hard fall. |

You mean trendy healing "techniques" like homoeopathy that help us have healthier and simpler lives are just placebo!?
NO WAY! |

There's very little placebo effect involved in my personal experience, I know that before the treatment started, my neck was curved the wrong way. I know that when I stopped going, my neck was curving the correct way, and my headaches and my more than occasional neck muscle-pulling are now gone. I don't think you understand what you're talking about. |

| Except for one time, chiropractors ALWAYS made my back feel immediately better. Because of idiots like me who do weight lifting the wrong way, chiropractors stay in business. And no placebo effect for me. The last time it didn't help. So I switched to a muscle/bone doctor on this occasion whom I have to follow up with since it's STILL not getting better. Damn lower back/hip pain. |

a good medicine doesn't mean work for everybody...go to doctor, or try alternatives, like acupuncture...
but, yes, exercise work for everybody and make everybody healthy..try swimming..also, you can meet with sexy gurls/women too :D |

| I just went to a chiropractor for the first time this passed week and so far, I like her. My back already feels like it doesn't hurt as much. The x-rays show that my neck bones sit too straight (it should be curved a bit), and that I have a bit of damage from a car accident. I have heard a lot of conflicting information about chiro, but it seems to be good so far. |

My mum used to take me to a chiropractor a bit when I was a kid/teenager, so I'm immediately distrustful of them because my mum's a magical-thinking hippy weirdo.
After speaking some people over the last 10 years or so, it's been recommended time and time again to go and see a Physio-Therapist rather than a Chiropractor. |

You know what would be awesome?
Chiropractors versus velociraptors. It'd be way better than cowboys versus aliens! |

Well they're technically both qualified medical practitioners, but one of them believes in all kinds of existential stuff about the spine being either the root of all health evils/basis for a healthy life depending on its condition... and the other just finds things that are busted and goes about fixing them. I wrecked a knee and thanks to a physio, they helped me walk properly on it again so thats another vote for them instead of a chiro.
The big problem with chiropractor's is that even while they are legit in a sense they can help people with spinal problems, the whole lot was founded in quasi-quackery and never really managed to ditch it, partially because a lot of its holistic methods which was kind of sketchy, are still being taught :p |

Physios are QUITE different in their methods. For example, the "crack crack" method is a rarely used one. This is (apparently) because "cracking" something back into place can cause an awful lot of problems with the surrounding muscles.
I mentioned earlier that my mum had taken me to a Chiro a few times when I was younger. Most sessions were ok, I don't remember any real difference, but whatever. The LAST time I went the Chiro (and I stress 'last' because it will be the last) I got "cracked around" and then wasn't able to stand up straight for the next 4 days. I had to take time off school (during exams) and was in a LOT of pain in my lower back, even while lying down.
My mum atributed this to be some kind of "necessary spiritual release" or some such  The chick just tweaked my back the wrong way, and I couldn't ing walk.
Hate hate hate  |
