the central station is great... at first! but the knobs and buttons starts crackling pretty fast and suddenly L and R doesnt have the same level etc etc (common problem on cheap potentiometers). It can probably be easily fixed on service but i thought i just mention it on a such expensive gear. Theres really not many good options out there for analog volume reduction. If you have money you might want to consider DSP instead? I know nothing about it but im pretty excited about the future with it. At any point it will also be cheaper than analog.

oh and Rann pretty much summed up the Big Knob, it sounds like you have dust in your brain/speakers listening to it.

I just got some of these to put between my HS80s and the monitor stands I already had.

They either :-

a) make a surprising about of difference in tightening up the bottom end

or

b) I'm imagining a)

Either way i'm happier.

But those are for my car.

Honestly, I haven't bought or really thought I needed anything for my studio in about a year. Kind of at the point where I have a setup thats working well and meets all my needs at this point.

actually i lied, im obsessed with speakers and i want to try everything. Genelec 8240, 8260, Dynaudio Air 6 and 25, (all DSP). JBL LSR6328, Barefoots. it I want to compare all of them and write an essay on whos good for what and what not. Then get rid of all of them and left with one.
Mad for Brad
Can't think of 1 thing to be honest. I do want to get a cello at some point but I don't see myself having time to learn. I would honestly say this is the first time in a while where i've been completely satisfied with my setup and workflow. I don't get those , if only I had this or that feelings anymore. I suppose I will just continue expanding my score library but that is about it. I have about 300 scores and another 50 or so theory related music books.

I have to admit my GAS list is want now rather than need, although the want is driven by a deviation of musical direction and therefore partially a need.

They are pretty popular since they are so cheap, and do a fairly efficient job for what they are. On the higher end of things, I see a lot of people replacing MoPads with Recoil Stabilizers which reportedly do a better job of isolating your monitors from the furniture they sit on. There is still a healthy amount of debate surrounding how much products like these really help, but the discussion is also highly subjective depending on your setup.

True

My monitors were on solid metal stands on a wooden floor so it seems fairly obvious that there would be a difference. Whether the old brittle sound is any worse to mix with than a new spongier sound is debatable. It sounds nicer though, although the difference is small.
