Well I jusr bought another monitor.
I imagine 4 22 inch wide screens flipped vertical . 2 for each mac pro using synergy to share mouse and keyboard. I feel like i'm in a space ship. Its awesome. All the same model too so everything matches which is just as important.
1.5 metres by 0.5 metres each screen at 1050 X 1680
Basically a 62' high definition widescreen lcd monitor. THey also HP so quite sexy as well.
I prefer having mpre screens than one larger one so you can keep certain apps on certain screens and not have to keep repositioning them. |
I am in the position of buying one massive screen that will have the hight of one of the two 22" monitors I already own. So it would be one vertical 22" the big screen and then another vertical 22".
Going the rout you chose might actually save me money and frankly I like the screens split up so I Can further organize my DAW. Also having a screen just over my keyboard (not on my desk) would be nice :D :D
You seem to like the quad setup I might just do as you did. |

| well also understand that I like my screens vertical as I deal with scores which are more long than wide. That is the only reason I do that . |

Yea I figured as much but didn't correlate.
I would probably use three horizontally and one vertically near the keyboards. If I did go with a large screen I would use two of them vertical on either side.
But I digress, I can defiantly see myself being more productive/organized with more smaller screens. Thinking about constantly moving windows on one screen or even relying on windows 7 window management is already giving me a headache.
Looks like i'm matching the ones I already have, their all acer but I wish they didn't say acer on them lol Maybe i'l black out/darken the logos with some marker. |

| for me having the most visual space is paramount. Especially when you have shortcuts to switch between screen sets. I have no idea how people manage with just 1 screen. I would be crippled. I even have a 5th lcd 32 inch TV for media sync but that is rather cheap and by the side. |

btw on topic: not sure its gear acquisition syndrome, but im starting to think about a midi-keyboard again. a big one, without any knobs and faders (already have a UC33), to start playing freeform again.
- big width (4-5oct)
- usb powered but also normal midi out
- nice weighted keys
- narrow depth, want to have room for a computer keyboard
- midi-ch selection (1-16), and split.
any suggestions? ive considered a real synth for this too though like nordlead 2x, but its a little pricey when i probably wont use the synth part for other than jaming. or maybe something like Casio PX130? |

That M-Audio 88es is supposed to be pretty decent for stupidly little money.
I've just been informend that Euphonix will be releasing Windows drivers for the Artist series (MC Mix etc) next year so that's me sorted for the control surface :) |

| 88 was a little overkill though lol, i looked at KeyRig 49, actually they lack midi out! no wait the 61 and 88 has that. but they look like crap lol. it must look nice too, im having it in the livingroom. |

Lets see...
New PC - more cores, more RAM, more everything
Sonar X1 Essential or Studio (happy with Cubase, but X1 looks very intresting, but no demo = no buy and I learned my lessons from buying out of a gut reacion)
Cytomic The Glue
2CAudio Breeze
Tone2 FireBird+
... probably impOSCar 2 (if it will see daylight) |

Be very careful about that. We had the full Euphonix System 5 (x2) at work so before they launched the Artist series all the guys I worked with got a special deal and quite a few were bought. Unfortunately, 90% of them went back.
They're buggy as hell, crash quite often, then automap is really flakey and doesn't work with all programs.
I know they have release firmware updates so now they are very stable and do work on Logic, but many people still report serious problems on other software.
Now bear in mind that PC for them was an after thought, as they did so many deals with apple based software, so I really wouldn't hold your breath about getting great PC support.
Don't get me wrong - on paper they are ing incredible, and I LOVE those faders (exactly the same as used on the MC5 which costs $200k), but the Artist series has been plagued since day one.
If you were a logic user then I'd say jump on it right now as they are a joy to use, but you'll want to wait at least a couple of months after they release it for PC to see if they have problems. |
