seems like their cazy marketing is working.
i hate ultra for many reasons.
one of them is the freaky "exclusive" rule, which doesnt let the DJ's play at other parties .... |

How that differs from any other festival?
...You hate festivals in general?
| quote: | Lollapalooza:
Unless artist or agent thereof receives express written
consent executed by a representative of C3, Artist will decline any
performance engagement from 180 days before Lollapalooza to 90 days
following Lollapalooza within a 300-mile radius of Lollapalooza. This
radius clause also includes any performances (public or private) in
Chicago the weekend of Aug 6-8, 2010. Artist will not announce ANY
Lollapalooza performance until Lollapalooza has publicized its schedule.
Pitchfork:
Artist will not make a public performance or appearance in Cook County,
Illinois, 60 days prior or after the Pitchfork Music Festival. Artist
will not perform at any “festival” in the states of Michigan, Ohio,
Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota or Missouri 14 days prior and after the
Pitchfork Music Festival July 16-18, 2010.
Coachella:
Except for the Festival and unless otherwise agreed to by “Festival”
in writing, artist shall not advertise, perform, or publicize any
performance:
a) In Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara,
Ventura, or San Diego counties form December 1, 2009 until 30 days
after the Festival (editor’s note: the Coachella festival typically takes place in mid-April).
b) At any festival in the States of California, Nevada, or Arizona
until 30 days after the Festival
c) Or announce any other US festival prior to Feb, 15, 2010 (this
does not apply to SXSW)
This includes record company, promoter, ticket company, band website,
or Internet releases.
Bonnaroo:
Company has the right to Artist’s exclusivity within a 300-mile radius for a period of 60 days prior and 60 days following the performance.
Austin City Limits:
Exclusivity: 180 days before festival to 90 days following festival within a 300 mile radius of festival; includes any performances in Austin the weekend of Oct. 8-10, 2010. |

I see your point, but how many other festivals have anything else going on within a 300 mile radius at around the same time, in America? Not the same really is it? |

| Sucks for the people who waited, now their going to have to find someone selling them on the street, and thats if they are any hard tickets. According to their website it says tickets will be mailed on or around 3/1/2011. Tickets for each day would be the easiest way, they made their money already so it doesnt matter IMO. |

| well i'll be the first to say it - i've got a good friend who just heard of Ultra for the first time and wants to go. Literally this was Wednesday night. We were getting hotel straightened out and now Ultra is sold out. Anyone looking to sell... let me know. She has the money to pay above face but not looking for anything ridiculous. Just PM me please... |

Well.. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Ultra. I'm just saying how I see it. Ultra is a business. A business which is trying to make profit. Just like any other festival and I understand the exclusivity contracts (hate them as much as everybody else) but what can you do? I think it's just silly to hate the festival for trying to gain profit as a business. Instead of blaming the festival, shouldn't you hate the artist who signs the contract?
And to be honest.. There's maybe 3-4 artists who are ultras exclusives who I'd like to see in a club, so it really doesn't make a difference to me. I can live with that. |

ultra was successful for many years before they started the exclusive nonsense. there was no need to do it except that they got greedy.
lets be honest about something, ultra would not even exist if it wasnt for wmc. wmc brought the artists and then once a hell of a lot of artists were around a festival just made sense. and honestly thats great. festivals are fun and a great way to see a lot of artists in a short period of time if you cant make it out every night of the week. but the second ultra starting making artists exclusive they turned evil. some would argue it happened before that but thats how i see it. and now they are trying to be the only thing relevant and keeping artists away from their fans and well thats simply bogus. they have more money these days and the corporate machine is turning. they can outbid the clubs and its up to the artists to decide. oh wait, should i get paid x amount of dollars for only playing a 1 hour set and being exclusive to ultra or should i play 3 nights and a pool party and make the same amount of money and party the rest of the week? it makes sense. its just not good for us as the consumers. the more nights, the more djs, the more sets, the better for everyone. well except ultra of course. but they're gonna make their money regardless so wtf. some of us simply dont want to pay that much money to run around a dusty field with little kids on drugs for the first time to catch a watered down one hour set by our favorite artists. some of us prefer the comfort of a night club. but ultra doesnt let us have that choice anymore. if you wanna see so and so artist you have to pay the big bucks and put up with all the nonsense that is ultra. and thats bogus. |

i can not believe they are not warning anyone about NOT selling single day tickets they are going to piss alot of ppl off they have sold single day tickets always now i have to buy them from someone.. they should have at least mentioned it , although there are lots of friday and sunday tickets for sale online. i think there lack of information this year is horrible . i dont know what to expect there are so many rumors from the construction site at the park to the wristband rumor , an estimated half a million ppl, the splitting of wmc, its just been so sketchy. i hope there are no riots and i hope they ing deliver and it is as massive as there making it seem. i have a feeling downtown will be pure craziness that weekend. and there are SOLD OUT ? how is that even possible its not even march yet. and they better not have a ty main stage like 09 wtf was that , they better have a monster of a main stage with hella of light show.
last year was amazing pure perfection!
i am also worried that they will try to cram as many ppl as they can in the park 200,000 ppl sweating to over crowed + lots of drugs = overdosing and disaster
this can either turn out to be really good or real bad , |
