Ha, that actually is a fairly good point! Well done.

I would still say, having to go out and buy expensive shoes he will rarely use is a bit pointless, but it doesnt entirely invalidate your point

The fact I noticed he doesn't .. what? makes me shallow? I don't think I understand what you were trying to say.

While you debated, I decided to state the obvious: Haters gonna hate and conversers gonna converse...

I messed up somewhere in the middle when I was trying to rap but cut me some slack, I'm knackered, I had to take care not to wake up the neighbours and I don't have that much time in my hands :D

nothing wrong with nice sneaker type shoes with formal wear. in fact if i were getting married and my future husband wanted to wear sneakers i would fully encourage it. i've done it myself at work. sneakers aren't in the same category as flip flops which i don't believe men should wear.

Why do they have to be expensive? Shouldn't an intelligent man like Lira know how to find a deal?

But, if I can get away wearing something comfortable, I will.

I can, therefore I do.

Understood, though the general reply would be that there's something of an imperative to make a concession of (what is in this case) comfort in the spirit of acknowledging the wishes and desires of the person whose wedding you're attending, even if you can get away with doing otherwise.

I'm sure I could have gotten away with quite a bit at my best friend's wedding earlier this year, but hey, it was his day.

Wow, did the tune suck really this much? :( :p

Why would anyone care about what I'm wearing anyway? The bride of the next wedding I'm attending even voiced her approval when I asked if she'd mind (because, really, I had never given it any though, nor anyone who invited me seemed to acknowledge it either).

Indeed, we're in full agreement there :conf:

Nobody over the age of 14 should wear sneakers with any kind of formal wear.

This.
I dunno Lira, not being nasty about it, but it is slightly disrespectful, you get to wear sneakers whenever you want every other day of the year so its nice if you go out of your way to dress up for other peoples special day.

And this is why I described this in terms of the wishes and desires of the person (people) whose wedding your attending. If their wishes and desires are that you select that which would make you most comfortable, then go nuts. Assuming, alternately, that they wish a certain level of formality, it's obviously up to you whether or not you feel this is just another instance of compromising in order to accommodate, whether or not you agree or understand- and a wedding obviously isn't the only example of this.

I'm just glibly stating the basis for that compromise, in the case of a wedding.

Look man, I'm just saying that it all depends on the color of your tie.
