I hope that helps the debate somewhat! |

OP - you asked about how to do away with monitors.
In this months Future Music mag a well know producer (I can't recall his name!!) show cased his studio and shockingly has never used monitors. He uses an ancient pair of white cheapo pc speakers he rescued from a skip!
I've come accross other examples of this too.
Ok maybe not ideal, but none the less some pro's do it. Also I knew a chap on the Anjuna forum who got some good releases, all done using basic headphones. |

That's pretty amazing. I guess if you know your listening device EXTREMELY well it can be done, no matter what it is. |

But seriously, ST's productions WILL sound better once ran through an analogue chain.

My instinct is that you could be right, but I am also mindful that you can give someone a sugar tablet and pretend it's medicine and they get better - the placebo effect.
Also I discovered somthing recentyl about how the mind can trip me up >> I was tweaking away on my synth and automating the movements and thinking the tweaks really made a difference. Then I realised the synth was disengaged and not being tweaked at all - what a mindfuk! |

I've never once been angry with or discourteous to you, 'sup?
As I said, many an interview shows no decent monitors, I guess they could all be wind ups then...... |

| im not angry at all, i just try to save the OP from money and frustration. software will get the job done! analog hardware will also get the job done but its meant for religious fanatics with lots of money and time. the answer maybe is somewhere in the middle (a computer with a daw and some VA-synth). |

Hey man I appreciate it but don't worry about me I have absolutely no money to begin with so I can't waste it. :P |

| what im trying to say is that you can make good music without money at all, if you have a ok computer. download Reaper (www.reaper.fm) and some free VST synths (Synth1 is awesome) and some samples/loops etc and your set to atleast find out whether this is something you want to spend money on later. |
