Perhaps. However, the lack of transparency of the Con govt and the Harper way of doing things goes against the grain of what 'Canada' is. Why can't we find a fiscally responsible party/leader who is not a tard? Don't even get me started on the whole 'jets' situation...if the Liberals pulled that stunt Harper would be going ape.

One recent example, changing letterheads to 'Harper Government' from 'Government of Canada' doesn't raise any red flags?

Apart from the G8 Summit, proroguing parliament twice, being held in contempt, rising gas prices, ridiculous transportation system, and dated health care system.... bah this list could be endless

Another dismal 4 years ahead of us.

there has to be a balanced. I hate the proportional representation system because it'll be full of party lackeys. at least in current system, the local MPs are suppose to represent local interests. yeah i know this doesn't quite work this way, but most of the time when I mail my MP, I get some sort of response.

Personally, I don't have a problem with party lackeys filling the government since any party member is a lackey now. The local MP doesn't work simply because in 99.999999% of the cases they have to vote along party lines. The system would work if MPs were not forced to follow party lines.

I don't like the proportional representation system simply because it lends itself to a minority government. The government needs to govern which seems too difficult to accomplish in a minority situation.

Lets see what these 4 years have in store for us. It is the first time in 27 years we have a Conservative majority.

1993 was 27 years ago?

1984-1993... 1993 if I remember correctly thats when Chretien gained power. So I used 1984 as the start date and not the 1993.

Anyways to the people who are bitching that the system is flawed, try and change it. If you want a true majority government, I guess we need to change it to must having 185 seats and not 155.

but we had the majority until 93... i see what u did there now. U were counting the time from the beginning of the mandate, not the end.

1988 was the last time canadians elected a majority conservative house of commons.

I hope now with a majority harper goes back to his roots and balances the budget, lowers taxes, and reduces bureaucracy. If he turns into another red tory mulroney ill really be pissed off LOL

Harper will do his part in changing the system by taking away funding for the other parties...just wait and see

I love how the loony segments of the left are clammering for electoral reform - they just don't pay attention. Proportional Representation in almost any form is going to lead to an endless string of minority governments. I work here in Ottawa, and I can tell you that the federal government officially accomplished DICK ALL in the last five years. This puts most of the policy making in the hands of unelected senior level bureaucrats which is WORSE than even the Harper Tories.

You want your ideas represented in government? It's time to start lobbying the leadership of the NDP, Liberals and Greens to start talking merger. Make the next election a direct comparison of ideas and not repeated splitting of the same hair.
