LMAO.
I have no clue how you can be Canadian and not know who arcade fire is. But I guess I have the edge on way to much so thats how I know
as for mau5...Ive always enjoyed a various tracks of his. I fell of TA for a while yrs ago right when he was coming into it(i kept getting music but didnt post or party) and just naturally enjoyed many of his tunes. His latest album wasnt my thing but can appreciate some of the latest tracks hes put out. Sure his attitude seems to be hit or miss, depending but so is everyone elses. We all like to be dicks on here and thankfully its a place that allows it. |

None of this is new, the flak you receive on here unfortunately comes with the territory -- prior to you it was Armin who got slagged, and before that Tiesto, and before that Oakenfold.
It's no fun to come back from the hotel after an amazing gig only to see someone slamming you (or your set) but that's what happens. You could have a thread with 100 positive reviews but it's the one negative one that eats away at you. It takes A LOT to not reply back to defend yourself. I'm not a DJ so I can't comment on that aspect but I have heard enough over the years. It's a slippery slope - even if you are in the right, and come in to defend yourself, you always run the risk of making the problem worse -- those that don't like you won't care what you have to say and those that are on the fence sometimes see your response as being ego/power tripping related. The ones that rise to your defence, are seen as 'kissing ass/ball washing'...it's all ed up.
TA, for the most part, lets people say what they want without repercussion... I don't censor things and TA doesn't have many rules because life is full of rules and once you wrap too many rules around something it becomes less fun. The major caveat of that is then you end up having ppl threatening to sue you for defamation because of comments said about them on your forum. Believe it or not, this place was once all all lovey dovey. Like most forums in their early stages, many people know each other and don't want to push boundaries... but as things grow ppl want to carve out their own little niche and label those that are too positive as either EDM n00bs or kissing ass for some nefarious purpose.
Also, from my experience, the negativity seems to be worse in Toronto. It's one reason why it's nice to travel to hit up a party - it's a completely different experience. Some would argue the 'scene' evolved into this after 'raves' migrated into nightclubs and dancefloors migrated into havens for bootle service booths... but that's a topic for another thread. |

All the experts on here and no one can enlighten me on how artists get paid???
Hmm... |

1) The bigger you get the more haters you get
2) Many TAs will slam any successful artist especially local ones because of envy.
3) the actual truth is that it really is no ones business what someone else earns. You have the option to pay the money for the product, or not. I am sure that people asking what Mau5 earns would not answer the same question about themselves.
4) It shouldn't matter what you think of Mau5's personality whether it's positive or negative, in the public realm his music should stand on it's own merit.
5) TA is a great place to have debates until it gets personal (as in name calling and undermining comments) |

How do artists get paid? Do they get a cheque monthly, one big chunk in an advance??
How about event pay? Does the promoter pay the label who in turn pays the artist??
I've always wondered how the pay structure worked... |
depends on the artist and arrangement. When Snoop played last year he got paid cash...it was a lot of ing cash too. A lot of guys work with cash because they have to pay their roadies from their pocket and most of the time things like work permits are an afterthought;p |

Well, I didn't think you'd be the one that answered...
What about big tours, album sales, etc... |

it was part of a big tour...as far as the rest, i don't know. I only have experience in settling with shows.
cash is also great for ummm...tax purposes:p
my guess is monthly residual checks or deposits, but someone feel free to correct me if i am wrong. most of the big guys get advances before putting out an album anyway. |

That set was -1000/10 so cheesy/gay, couldnt believe how much deadmaus sucks. I was booing loudly the whole time. At least zabiela was ok 6.5/10. |
