Look, I'm not a huge fan of them either, but she was blathering on about "young artists" who "release records they dream of" or some , and those were just the first two young artists who are doing pretty well I could think of.

I'm sure there are many others, Flying Lotus would be one, but I was on the way out for a job interview. :p

For $35 each ($50 at the door).

What you stand for is consumerism.

The avowed mandate of the consumer is to be a (often mindless) devourer of the means of production. Your role is to swallow culture, not create it. To be a spectator of your own life, not a participant. Consumerism is a culture of passivity, of under-achievement, of purchasing the hollow shell of the ideal lifestyle (As Seen on TV), not working towards achieving it. Where every flavour of creativity, ambition, originality and diversity is mashed into the omnipresent control of market uniformity. You are a slave to the dollar value.

Your personality is defined not as who you are or what you do or even what you can achieve, but by what you can acquire, what you can accumulate, what you can possess. You rely on things to define you. You rely on others to think for you. Ultimately, within our lifetimes, this will make the domain of free thought, free expression and free will literally impossible. Not through force, as totalitarian regimes have done in the past, but through applied docility, through conscious negligence -- the populace will do it willfully, discarding it as deftly as taking out the garbage and treating it as such. Consumerism is akin to avoiding someone murdering you by committing suicide.

You are the death sigil of everything that's good, pure, and honest with every underground scene.

And we don't need you.

If you are paying for it, it is not a scene. You cannot purchase culture.

Oh look, something interesting came of this thread. I was just reacting to your use of "archaic revival". I became interested in sufi mysticism especially about music by way of Hazrat Inayat Khan... so imma check this guy out. thanks.

Yuck, thanks.

That is probably a more elaborate way of saying 'i like to touch little boys' peepees' than i could ever have imagined.

Oh well, I have Ted Kaczynski's book too.

(and yes, Tasty, I'm well aware of that. It's rather irrelevant to what we're talking about, though)

Kaczynski's writings are kind of interesting, yes.

Just saying, might want to be aware of the whole picture.

The other problem you have, aside from crippling stupidity and incredible naivity, is that you're still locked in an outdated model of how the music industry works.

It is ishkur who is living in the past. He needs to update his propaganda doctrine for this decade. :stongue: He came here suggesting that djs only exist to promote their labels tracks and that we should avoid those ''promo-whores'' that only exist to ''spam their tracks to sell them!''

However!
A. Record sales are a pimple on the ass of a tick on the ass of an elephant compared to those djs whole income. Since actual profits are , If anything, this would suggest that they would spin more music they simply like but are not affiliated with. It doesn't have to a whole set of just their tracks so they can fit as many of them in a set as they can, promote them out and presumably sell them and make money (boogie boogie boogie they would be so evil and not cool to do that)
In other words big ing whoop! Record sales are the quality of their sets would be more important to those ''sly'' Djs!
B. When called out on it he chose ignore it 3 times. (I am not going to lie he is a bit smarter than you)
C. You then made it a point to let me know which Djs Ishkur was talking about! The ones that break the big tracks!
D. Again I told you that it is 2011 not too many dance Djs are breaking tracks these days. Not unless they have some sort of major label support.
E. And then I took the chance to tell you that the independent scene was pushed out the way and that independent artists do not stand a chance as there is no viable business for them model anymore! Like John Fleming did with his post.
F. You then told me that the internet is here and people can use it to promote their tracks like Armin Van Buuren does (who is also on satellite radio lol)
G. I then offered you the rebuttal like yeah right these tracks will earn independent artists Dj gigs with out any affiliations....
H. You told me that you do need connections to make it these days and the playing field is not so level after all because ''we are talking about people with affiliations dumbass'' of course the people without any affiliations can't make it!

I mean... I could talk with you all day.
