Obviously you don't understand or never went to Metropolis.
This is not a club, it's a SHOW venue.
It's made for set-ups like Tobin, Plastikman, Justice, Modeskeletor and bands.
A DJ set on a table, even with a random VJ looks ridiculous there.
People don't go there and pay 10$ drink to stand there and look at a big empty room. Even less a DJ set from non-commercial DJs. |
mutek a couple years ago all night with villalobos.... that was fun and it didnt end until 6am
i think the highroller is right about them tho- and a dj in town from the uk though the same thing when we passed the poster... "how on earth could luciano and ricardo be playing 2 different parties on the same night". |

| It was part of Mutek... Ricardo on a random Saturday night wouldn't draw 600 people at Metropolis |

Her bosses need to seriously read the comments from this thread and comments from the Louis one.
'Have to love the ambition these guys show in keeping edm alive in Montreal but we certainly cannot say the same thing about the direction (and maybe the motivation).
/broken record since 2008 |

Hmmmmmm... lemme throw a curve ball into this thread:
Other than Metropolis where else could they have booked C2 + Luciano that would've been a success? Or would the booking just never work in a large venue (non-afters) because it's too underground? |

well, he's drawing over 700 on a random friday at stereo according to facebook! thats crazy. stereo's always been good w/ keeping it within capacity tho...
i know it's different venues but it's not THAT far-fetched.
as long as (hypothetical) ricardo @ metropolis is well promoted, i think high attendance #s could be obtained. it's been done before w/ mutek branding behind it, and people remember stellar nights so ya, i think 600 at metropolis for ricardo is possible.
don't get me wrong, i'm much happier seeing him at stereo rather than metropolis (as much as i hate that venue, the night greg was referring to was stellar!)
...anyways, i'm dressing up as a zombie prom queen tonight :D simple black dress w/ alot of zombie makeup, so psyched :) |

| I think the days of booking underground DJs in big venues is over (unless it's a rave, after, or big festivel like mutek, etc) |

especially on Halloween and head to head with Stereo booking RV. Record still scratching :p
RV is sold out, you guys think he would have sold out 900 capacity Stereo on a 'random' Fri night?
My bets are he would at least be close. |

absolutely. he was one of the DJs that fans were asking for the most (along with sven, of course). the pre-sales for this event went so damn fast. for sure he'd sell out 800-900, if they had that capacity. |

| Do you know the time slots for tonight. I really won't be happy if we have to wait until 6 a.m. for Ricardo to go on. |

I have no problem believing Ricardo can do 800 people at Stereo.
It's a dancing venue. For Djs.
Metropolis is another thing. It's a show venue so best suitable to look at that huge stage. It's big, it smells bad, the sound is average, the drinks are very expensive.
I wouldn't go see most DJs there. |
