but for every site that shuts down, 10 more take its place. THose places are a gold mine and you can make a killing in just a few months and close it. Start up a new one.
it is impossible to stop piracy like this. You can only encourage people to buy, Thats it. |

Democrats to continue Internet coup with new cyber bill
Daily Caller ^ | February 7, 2012 | Josh Peterson
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, following a recent anti-piracy legislative debacle with SOPA and PIPA, will lead his second effort of 2012 to push Internet-regulating legislation, this time in the form of a new cybersecurity bill. The expected bill is the latest attempt by the Democrats to broadly expand the authority of executive branch agencies over the Internet.
Details about the bill remain shrouded in secrecy. Clues available to the public suggest that the bill might be stronger than President Barack Obama’s cybersecurity proposal, which was released in May 2011. Reid said that he would bring the bill — expected to come out of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, chaired by Connecticut independent Sen. Joe Lieberman — to the floor during the first Senate work period of 2012.

Haha no worries.
| quote: | “Everyone wants to improve cybersecurity, but, if we’ve learned nothing else from previous legislation affecting the Internet, we know that an imposition of an overly broad regulatory regime of the Internet ecosystem will not sit well with the American people,” a Senate aide told The Daily Caller.

Seems like it's more geared towards anti-hacking, but yeah..
One thing I've been thinking about regarding a SOPA/PIPA-type bill is that webhosting will go through the roof. I don't know how many servers are on US soil (google search 'servers in us percentage' only gives me links to sites about tipping), but I'm guessing alot, and if sites are prone to being shutdown on a whim, then I'm sure there'll be many 'empty' server racks in America.
Also, how much money do you guys think the media companies have lost trying to push this bill through? I bet it's more than what they lose due to piracy in a year. |

There are masssive numbers of server farms here. I have a cousin that works at one. It's a warehouse filled with racks and racks...and there are hundreds of places just like it...if not more.
As to costs, No, I think the cost of actual piracy is still a lot higher...can't remember the figure but I remember it being so. But they are spending gigabucks chasing their tails.
Then again, it's a power thing more than anything. Once they get the control they seek...well, the implications to free speech, freedom of information etc. are staggering. Just imagine the blasphemy laws being pushed in and by the UN applied to or 'by' any group with an issue. If one can outlaw speaking out against religions, one can outlaw music as have some 'faiths' as it is contrary to their 'holy book'.
Hell, look at what the PMRC did in America in the 80s. Rob Halford stood trial over lyrics!
I honestly recommend people read Orwell's 1984. Some scoff and say "paranoia" but the concepts he discusses are being enacted as we speak...and have been for quite some time now.
I rant, therefore I is ;) |

CoR Version of Bill:
| quote: | Gives ISPs power to collect information about you and share it with companies.
Does not explicitly allow censorship.
ISPs have the power to collect information about your Internet use.
The RIAA/MPAA/etc con (can? SIC) contract with your ISP to obtain this information.
This information is "proprietary" -- you don't have the right to know what info they're collecting on you.
The ISP is exempt from all legal and criminal action for surveillance under this bill.
TLDR in more legalese. The bill...
Gives private companies the power to collect "cyber security information."
Gives them the high-security clearance necessary to handle that information.
Allows companies, on behalf of themselves or other "protected entities", to:
A. "Use cybersecurity systems to identify and obtain cyber threat information to protect the rights and property of such protected entity."
B. Share that private information with said entity and/or the Feds.
The information collected is "proprietary" and may not be shared with anyone else.
Private companies acting under this law are exempt from:
A. Being sued or criminally prosecuted for doing this surveillance;
B. Being sued or criminally prosecuted for "not acting on information obtained or shared."
There must be yearly privacy reports made to the government.
"Cyber threat intelligence" means any information pertaining to "efforts to degrade, disrupt, or destroy" a network; "theft or misappropriation of private or government information, intellectual property, or personally identifiable information."
"Protected entities" mean companies only, not individuals. |
