Labour of Love @ the Guvernment - Review (pg. 5)

In simple words, this party was lame. First off, as everyone here mentioned, the bull with the long lines and the bouncers did me in from the get go. Could not get into the vibe after all that nonsense. Way too hot, felt like a sauna. Too many shirtless ginos there, yuky. The only highlight of the night for me was hearing Infected Mushtoom, these guys are truly talented. Overall, i would have to give this party 4/10.

peace,
Dave

You guys have got to see what they're saying on TRIBE:

http://www.tribemagazine.com/board/...&threadid=17667

It is clear that this party was without any doubt one of the worst parties that has ever happened at Guvernment.

It is a shame that the management at Guv allowed such a disaster to happen.

yea i was happy he spun till 7:30.. The crowd was a bunch of pansies thou, they should of yelled COMMUNICATION when he was walking off.. They just GAVE UP. No biggie. I enjoyed Deep Dish.

The management is to blame not Armin!
bloody theives.

I heard him speaking to a guy and he said "spin communication" and armin said yea! with thumbs up. next I asked him to spin till 9-10.. he laughed, and said "management".. with his shoulders in the air.

All right, after a completely bizzare day and a couple of weird missions on my behalf, I finally got back home and here is my short review...

I agree with all the comments about the lineups and amount of people in that place last nite, cuz it was too god damn packed! But then again, I can't really complain about the waiting in line (squeezed my way in at the beginning of the KoolHaus lineup and it took me 5 mins to get in), or about the overcrowdness in Guv/KoolHaus... trying to walk in Guv was like mission impossible, but if you just wanted to dance in one spot you could find plenty of space (you just gotta know where the magic spots are). There wasn't that many people in KoolHaus either (I dunno what's everyone complaining about), cuz I stayed there for most of the nite and at times I thought it was kinda empty too... getting from KoolHaus into the Guv was a suicide at one point, and I gave up on that option until like 3-4am, when the mess kinda cleared up and you could freely walk from one room into another with no congestion whatsoever.

As for the DJs, I checked out Luke Fair in the beginning, and it wasn't bad at all... went into the Guv (took me half an hour to get there) around 12:30 to check out BBB, and he was playing some hype beats, but it just wasn't my cup of tea, so I went back to KoolHaus to check Danny boy out. He was all right, at times even mellow and funky, which I didn't like so I went back to Guv, checked out other rooms, Drink, Skybar, etc. I caught the first 30 mins of Armin's set and found it to be mellow and cheese, so went back to KoolHaus to check out the crazy Arabs, Deep Dish. And they were laying some crazy twisted chunky progressive, so I stuck around there until like 4:30-5:00 (when Ali started dropping some soft funky house, which just killed it for me again). Went back to Guv to check out AVB again, and was surprised to find that he turned that room into slaughterhouse... jesus, was he dropping some hard beats or what?! Plus the kid's got some mixing skills, I was just standing there amazed... wow!
After hearing Armin for like an hour or so, I got kinda bored, and went back to KoolHaus to check out Sharam (I guess he was spinning 2nd), and boy, did he take me out by surprise or what?!!! I still can't figure out where the hell do these guys get their music from, and how the hell do they sample all that stuff into such a wicked set! Some top knotch mixing and tune selection... and another part about it is that I could only recognize a tune or two from their whole set... unbelievable.

All in all, music-wise, I give it 8/10... crowd-wise 9/10, and management/organization-wise 2/10 (and that is pushing it too).

I have to say that I liked the way they set up the DJ booths, both in Guv and KoolHaus... props for that!

Another factor that influenced my decision on this party were all the people I was with... all my friends, old and new, made this nite a memorable one, and made me forget about all the problems most of you encountered. Shoutouts to brunette, TranceGeek, my Slavic brothers & sisters, my boys from Kingston, UofT, Brampton, Mississauga, etc, and all the TAs (I'll meet you all, sooner or later).

And brunette, you're very welcome... we gotta hook up to catch up on things. Last nite we just weren't in the right state of mind... (By the way, did you give up on that massaging toy? I really liked it)

Now I'm gonna go get some well deserved rest, after being awake for 40 hours straight! I'm hurting...

Yea who doesn't! Probably everyone on this forum that's been to Guvernment posted or said to themselves.. " I'm never going back.. I hate that place" I know I have..

Yet I go back when the time and the bad vibes fade or a good dj arrives. Best thing is to accept that place or not go there at all.

i think they're going to keep that setup in guv for the DJ booth...its the 2nd time in one week taht I've seen it like that, and not in the old spot.

Ugh, I'm really pissed at whoever organized this party. I'm 99% sure that I'm never going to Guvernment again for a special event. At this very moment, I'm sick of that place...I dont think I'll be going there till October, for Dave Seaman. But definately not going for a special event, its not worth the trouble. Go yourself Guvernment. Can't believe that I backed this club up not even 2 weeks ago.

And why cant I register on Tribe...? I wanna post some comments there as well, just for the hell of it.

Hello people

Heres my review

By the way.. im the guy who had the shirt which lit up as a volume bar.
Anyway.... got there at 11:30.. and entered hell as we waited in line.
After seeing how ridiculous the line was... we just had to cut in and we finally got through right before the bouncers told everyone else that the party was overcapacitated and they werent letting anyone in.
They finally let the ticket holders by pass and so me and my freinds did and we entered the club.....well almost... there was a line getting into the main room.

Heard some of bad boy bills set.. and really enjoyed how deep and hard his bass was. After that... infected mushroom came on and i couldnt stand it... it was a bunch of noise to me... so m me and my friends went to the Kool Haus.... and this was when i entered the depths of hell..... it was lineup after lineup getting to and from rooms.....we finally got into the kool haus and heard some deep house.

It was so gay in there becuase it was so boring and people were just standing around. I just compared the instant i was in that room to how they party in Ibiza and came to the conclusion that Toronto is filled with a bunch of "fantasies", people who think they are king and stand there trying to look cool. I hate the party crowd here.. its filled with annoying s who stand around like ing pidgeons. Now that i let that out... i realized how kool haus was so we headed back to the main room where armin was preparing for his set....I talked to him for a while (he knew me from before becuase i interviewd him in Ibiza) and he told me how he had a cold and was tired from all the travelling.

He finally got up after Infected Hell finished and began his unbelievable set. Just as he started to spin... this started to yell at him from the stairs to sign an autograph and take a picture.... Armin turned and said sorry i cant.. and put his hands together as if praying to say "please..... i cant" but he still insisted.. he didnt care.. he came several times... and the bouncer had to yell at him to get off stage. He did finally... but i wanted to kick his ing ass. As he was spinning, i talked to his agent (the older fella who everyone thinks is his father) and asked him if armin has a residency here... he was unclear with the answer but said we just happen to give him Guv gigs becuase they fit well within his schedule.... ?

Later i proceeded towards the stage where i met Tatgirl, Dj El kAy dee, Malice, and heat score. Nice to meet you guys! Armin then went really nuts and pounded us with amazing anthems... most memorable was LIGAYA. The crowd went crazy. And then came the very end of his set... where he did the unbeleivable....he left his decks while "The sound of Goodbye" was playing and walked down the stairs toward us and started to dance with us!!!!!! JUmping up and down with us..... it was ing great..... I couldnt beleive it... then he got horded and security had to bring him back up... then he left.

After that we went into kool haus and walked around a bit and went home.....and collapsed on my bed after scrubbing the filth off my body in the shower.

Thats all FOLKS!

What a journey!

Enough has been said about the utter chaos @ The Government, there’s already a long list of grievances so I guess a quite vivid image of the mess has been depicted to the ones of you who missed it. I’m sorry to hear about your g/f Desidel, thankfully she was ok at the end of it all. After everything has been said, I couldn’t have pictured a different state of affairs. Close to 4000 tickets have been sold a couple of weeks prior to the event so I knew perfectly what to expect going in. The ‘box of sardines’ scenario was unavoidable for an event of such magnitude, but regardless the downright incompetence of the staff was simply appalling. Going in I had only one objective in mind and that was to see some of the most respected DJs on this planet perform right in front of my eyes; now the question is whether this privilege warranted such turmoil… you have 4 pages of replies to shape your stance.

A couple of days prior to the event my buddy got us on one of the promoter’s guestlist so he figured that we wouldn’t need to proceed to the club anytime before 11, which would leave us plenty of time to get in on time for Bad Boy Bill’s set. Little did he know that it would take us only about 1 hour to figure out where the right lineup is. Once we got behind the disorganized gathering in front of the central door it took me only about 20 minutes to figure out that we haven’t budged one single inch, that’s when I spotted Mecha and Trancearmada who looked as perplexed as we were. The rest of the TA crew had already got in as they all had tickets but thanks to Trancearmada’s negligent buddies ( how can you be friends with such scum, that was such a low act ) he had to relocate to the other line and you know the rest of the story. Since Mecha and I had tickets (In E-master we trust) we proceeded to the fast moving line and it didn’t take long to FINALLY get in. My other buddies stayed in the ‘discount guestlist line’ since none of them had tickets either. I learned today that after an extra wasted hour they just decided to walk away from the gargantuan jumble…

Once inside the koolhouse it was a mission and a half to get The Government, which was hands down the worst part of the night. I don’t know how long that took but at least some decent ladies around us made the wait a bit more pleasant. Once we finally got the main room BBB’s set was almost over so I only had about 10 minutes to admire him work his magic on the stage. I ran into some old buddies in the meantime and we encountered some TAs as well, Infinity High, Sage (thanx for the drink bro but where the hell did you disappear all of a sudden, I had to prove to you that I can last longer than at wemf buddy hehe), EL Kay Dee (I guess we’ll officially meet at Marco V)… The TA meeting was a complete failure as many of us were still stranded in the massive lineups outside at the scheduled hour so I guess it will be much easier to coordinate a rendez-vous @ Viva for Marco V in 12 days.

We observed most of IM’s show from the terrace, it wasn’t my cup of tea but the last thing I’d do is move to another room at snail’s pace. At about 2:45 Emaster, Mecha and I proceeded to the front stage where most of Armin’s aficionados seemed to be amalgamating. That’s when the unbelievable happened! We spotted our good old friend Eso pumping up the crowd from the top of the stairs leading to the stage so as we go to say hello, out of nowhere I hear Mecha tripping out ‘IT’S AVB, IT’S AVB’, the God was standing right in front of us. Without saying a word E-master promptly reached for this camera and the rest is history... I don’t’ think I ever had a bigger grin on my face :happy2: :happy2:.

He started off with tunes that I’ve mostly never heard before but as the night progressed the set got harder and once Café Del Mar was dropped I could see happy faces all around me. At one point I totally ran out of gas, I just stood there with Eso admiring Armin putting on an exquisite performance; I remember a topic a while back where people were discussion the recipe to keep bouncing until the early dawn and amid the suggestions of various drugs and drinks someone stated that at one point music will just take over your body and regardless how exhausted you are you won’t be able to help but to move. Armins’ music enthralled me last night and I fully second the statement above. The booze had worn off by 6 am when AVB’s set was harder than ever, there was only the music to keep me going. Sometime after 6 he stopped the beats and only then I realized that he was originally scheduled to go only until 6 am:nervous:; to everyone’s delight he asked the crowd how many more tracks we want and 10 was the magic number. The second part of his set was out of this world, I still can’t remember the name of the first track he dropped (anyone remembers?) but it was followed but Return To Cali!!! I went absolutely nuts when I heard this, I completely lost it, my buddy couldn’t believe that I was wasn’t on anything the way I was jumping around like a maniac at 7 am. AVB was un ing real! No matter how packed The Guv is if AVB is there I’m there!!! So at the end of it all I can say that AVB saved the night

Mecha, where the hell did you guys go? How did you get home anyway haha ???

ESO thanks huge for the lift bro, I owe you large dood!!!

See you @ Viva on the 13th
Cheers

I saw that guy myself, ruined it for everyone else on the steps. he gave armin trouble the first time at guv before the construction. trying to request a ing track and getting kicked out 3 times by security. couldn't believe the he was pulling, lack of respect and personal space.
