I cant believe how much complaining there is concerning ticket prices. At the same time, I do understand, $60 is a lot for a cover charge to a club but holy guys, consider this an amazing deal. You wouldnt believe how much people pay for tickets in Vancouver. It's got to be the highest prices in the country by far. You wanna see a 2 hour Markus Schulz set in Vancouver you can expect to pay $45 (after fees and surcharges). Thats how much i paid for his upcoming show on the 28th and i got the early in bird price.
Last year Armin in May cost $130 after all the BS fees and it was a 3.5hr set. He came to Vancouver 2 weekends ago and it was starting at $77 for a lame 2.5hr set. A party like BeB would first off never even take place in western canada, and if it did, we would be paying a minimum $200 per ticket. Tickets at Tiesto at NYE with Gareth Emery was starting at $130 before the fee's. Just insane.
I would gladly fork over $60 for an extended Markus set at a club where the atmosphere is unmatched and unrivaled. From what i read about Stereo, there is nothing that comes close to its vibe that any club in Western Canada could offer. Vancouver is a place to party with some brutal crowds and to top it off we have to pay the highest prices. Pisses me off. Sorry for the rant. |
I'm sorry but you guys are ing suckers for paying that much. Perhaps you should start looking at these DJ's motivation and consider moving on to ones who actually choose not to rip their fans off.
I mean could it be any more obvious that these DJs are in it to get your money? They stopped giving a about the music years and years and years ago when they realized that suckers like you would pay such ridiculous amounts of money to hear utter trash. |

that can only go so far tho without managment and the artist/dj not knowing
pvd i know did it a few years ago in nyc when venue's were chargeing more than $60 to see him he had them lower the price to no more than $50 but this was back in like 01/02
markus in nyc usually run's no more than 30 bucks and he always plays 6 hour sets
but stereo is a special club, i say if nothing else is going on that weekend then go for it what the heck, iam sure he is well aware of what ((())) is and the sound they want, if he brings the trouse bull there then that is a disgrace to the speakers |

Adam I totally agree man. It's beyond insanity. I will admit though, after having dulged into the edm nightlife, I cant be bothered with regular club nights no matter how cheap they may be, because they dont come anywhere close to the experience...but at the same time it's disgusting to have to pay these type of prices. That NYE gig with Tijs and Gareth, Tiesto had a 2 hr set and in gareth played for 1 hour. I didnt go but had lots of friends go and boy were they disapointed.
I'm just 23 yrs old and I've already gotten sick of paying these prices. Back when i was 19,20 my dumbass didnt know any better so I would be like "i guess this is the standard price" and go ahead with it. But it wasnt until I joined TA and started reading threads and seeing ppl in LA, NY, Toronto, Mtl, etc complain about $40 tickets. I was shocked. Thats when i realised we're gettin in ripppped off and it doesnt seem to be getting any better. The longest set I've ever seen in Western Canada (albeit my partying career is short) is a 3.5hr set. Thats it. Disgraceful.
I was fortunate enough to go to Ibiza wehn i was 21 and seen Armin spin at Amensia for 7hours. Thats the only marathon set I've ever seen and I had to go that far to see one. I've contemplated to just stop partying here in Vancouver, save up money throughout the year and just go to places like Ibiza where I know the money is worth it. |

Thanks for the links Adam, really appreciate it. Looks like residentadvisor is a good place to start looking for other stuff. I don't live in Vancouver but when we want to attend EDM events, we go to Vancouver to check them out. But now that I know other good parties do in fact exist, I'll keep an eye out. Its sickening to see the same guys over and over, especially when they don't deliver memorable sets. Markus is one of the rare breeds nowadays in terms of trance. I seen Armin last year in Vancouver and this year too (a couple weekends ago) and he dropped 3 or 4 of the same tracks as from the year earlier. Are you series? Like c'mon man, give us something different.
I also actually recently started getting into techno. If i lived in a city like Mtl, i know I'd love me some techno, seems like a great place for it. Planning to check out the Cocoon parties and Richie Hawtin's new residency at Space later this summer in Ibiza. :) |
