I totally agree with thefunk, western Canada ing blows for any events or parties. Plus as of late the promoters are just booking the commercial cheese. And like he said when there are DJs that come here the prices are ridiculous.
The past 6 months the only decent show (&price) was a trance show with Richard Durand, Sean Tyas and Simon Patterson. Except it was over at ing 230am. I stopped going out here and resorted to just saving up my money and every few months go to Montreal to party, see family and have a good time. Nothing in Canada can beat Montreal IMO. |

yes. i don't know of ONE single artist who would ever tell their booking agent "you know what? lower my fee, it's ok, i love the music and i want my fans to save money"...
again adam, it's the way things are these days. you have to keep up or stay away from the game...it is sad, i know...but very true.
you have no clue what stereo/produkt paid for markus schulz nor do you know what their operating costs are, so if i were you, i'd keep pricing comments to myself if i didn't have all the facts. not trying to be mean, but that's what i wanted to say.
60$ is NOT a rip-off if you know how much it cost to get him...which i personally do not. |

Adam you are missing the point here, in every genre there is someone that every edm fan wants to see, and they will pay.
You need to realize that the clubs charge a specific amount, because there are costs and over heads that need to be covered starting with the dj's salary and everything else on top of that.
I have said this before if alcohol was being served like every other club in the world this issue would not be occurring.
There are many that get the chance to be on a [ (Reduced list/ Free List) Hint Hint :p to see there favourite djs ] but others are not as lucky. so people will pay that much.
Just cuz you don't like markus and wont pay 60$ to go see him, does not mean those who do love markus wont pay that price. and i do not think its fair for you to call them suckers. |

haha dude, you missed adam's point. he's not talking about stereo, or calling people suckers for spending $60 for markus but he's talking about how people are suckers in western canada to pay 100$ + to see a 2 hour set from armin or some other trance cracker. and he's right, they are suckers. |

dude no mater where you are in the world im talking in general clubs have over heads and costs to cover most of the time there is a valid reason behind paying these kinds of prices.
apart for places in europe where booze is served until the club actually closes down and the entrance fees are not that expensive north america is stuck in that middle ground.
there is nothing like seeing top talent and asking for a beer at 9 am in the morning to keep going or a latte with 2 shots of baileys and paying 12 euros to get in.
Ibiza on the other hand is in a league of its own 70 euros for cocoon heroes on a monday night !!!! |

| Markus Schulz just announced on twitter that he wants to play longer than 6 hours if Stereo will let him and that 6 hours will be the minimum set length. I'm so happy that I bought my tickets already. |

It is not location specific. It happens everywhere. A lot of those people are new to the scene and that's what they like... big production, thousands of people, etc. Others would like something more genuine but they don't know it yet and haven't been exposed to other options. Maybe when they are they will look back and laugh at having paid $100 to see Armin, maybe they won't, but that's a doorway they had to pass through to get to where they want to go. It's not their fault they didn't have a friend who took them to some super cool tech-house party, or that one wasn't available in their hometown. Honestly, I'd rather hang with people that are upbeat and down for a party than techno elitists anyway. |

haha, so true...i'm getting to that stage of my life as well. don't get me wrong, i love having healthy debate/discussion about house/techno elitism :p but at the end of the day, i wanna have a ing good time when i go out, a good time that is justifiable enough for me to take out my wallet and spend. for a lotttt of people, markus schulz is the factor that justifies the $ spent. the fact that this event is being held at stereo only helps the cause. so, imo, the 60$ cover charge is very justified...he's a very expensive DJ, stereo has a staff to pay and hydro bills to pay, too so 60$ is a reasonable price for a booking of this magnitude. i'm sure it will sell out shortly.
and ps, i also think 60$ is a justified price because i (like many others here) have paid 40$-50$-60$ to go to stereo back in 2005-2006-2007. it was for djs like carl cox, chus & ceballos, dj vibe, victor calderone, mark farina, frankie knuckles, steve lawler, etc etc etc. i thought it was ing expensive too, but i still paid it & had a ing great time. i came out of the club thinking that my $ was well spent. |

So true. I myself am a reformed techno chin-stroker. I roll my eyes at some of the things I used to say, and some of the perspectives I had on the scene.
To each their own, and I don't want to judge because I used to be one of these people, but I would rather hang out with people who are just there to have fun, and who maybe haven't really experienced anything like this before, rather than get in a 30 minute micro-analysis about whether Berghain or DC-10 is a better club, or whether DJs who play vinyl deserve more respect.
In the end, most of those conversations are about ego, and really come down to "I'm a more traveled techno tourist than you" or "I've been to better parties than you" or "I know more about music than you", etc.
Not everyone who likes techno is like this, but it is way more prevelant at certain parties. For example, I heard a LOT of this kind of conversation happening the last time Richie was at Stereo.
However, with this in mind, although I like Markus, there is no way I would regularly go to trance parties to avoid this kind of attitude. :stongue: |
